Work Experience and Volunteer Work

Intern, Student Coordinator, Mission Bit

2015 - 2016

Mission Bit is a non-profit organization based out of San Francisco, CA. They seek to provide free coding classes to San Francisco high school students who want to expand their knowledge in computer science. As student coordinator I made sure students were receiving a full and enriching experience during their semester long class sessions and helped organize the end of semester Demo Day. With the rapidly expanding tech world, exposing youth to the world of computer science is crucial in making sure underprivileged youth can stay competitive.

Student Mentor, Dilaab Foundation

Summer 2014

The Dilaab Foundation is a non-profit organization based in Cebu, Philippines. Their aim is to provide recreational activities and alternative learning programs to kids in suffering from extreme poverty. Many of the kids the Dilaab Foundation reach out to don't have easy access to education because of financial and transportive reasons. As a student mentor I was tasked with helping run those activities as well as advocating for the pursuit of education beyond what Dilaab is able to provide.

Student Activity Director, Don Bosco Boys Home and Community School

Summer 2014

Don Bosco Boys Home and Community School is located in Cebu, Philippines. The boys home served as a dorm for young boys who ran into legal trouble not because of malicious intent but because of necessity to provide for themselves or their siblings due to poor conditions. The school doubled as a trade school for those boys and the local K-8 school for the children of the surrounding community. Though my role as Student Activity Director was to plan after-school extracurriculars, at times I found myself teaching class during the day due to lack of funds to be fully staffed.
