Parent/Student Resource Canvas Primer: What is Canvas?

You begin your day by logging in to PALCSchool. This is our virtual lobby for Pennsylvania Leadership Charter School. This is where you can find school announcements and important information. By logging in to PALCSchool it also logs you in to other important school tools and programs as well like GSuite (Google) for Education. You, as a guardian, can stop there, but your students need to go further into our school, and actually enter in to their virtual classrooms.

They can do this by clicking on one of their courses in the Academic Snapshot or the my info tab. Their classrooms/courses are located in a Learning Management System (LMS) called Canvas.

What is Canvas LMS?

Learning, because we use it to deliver education courses. Management, because it helps us organize these courses (create them, change them, assign them to students, grade them, etc). System, last but not least, is just a fancy word that translates to "software". An LMS is a computer program. Canvas is our LMS of choice. It is the virtual hallway in which students will find all of their classes and their learning materials.
