Girls on the run

Our own Marley Helmer received FIRST place out of 228 girls!! We somehow ended up running a little over 4 miles ! Thank you Ms. Mason for being her running buddy! You rock for changing your schedule around to accommodate our girls! Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Pike Road Makerspace Thinking Outside of the Box

Pike Road Middle School Makerspace teacher, Tara Reid, recently teamed up with Chris Wallis and Captain Parker of the Pike Road Volunteer Fire Department to come up with a creative educational challenge for the Makerspace students. While makerspace has had lots of exciting challenges this year, this was the most adventurous endeavor yet!

The objective was to research, design, and create a fireproof box to keep their origami creation safe in a fire. The temperature ranged from 500 to 700 degrees, and their creations would have to last for 2 minutes in the flames to be considered a win. Students interviewed firemen, studied melting temperatures of different materials, and even did a trial run at the station. PRFD was generous with their time and knowledge and built a portable open flame oven to test the creations.

Learners impressed everyone with their creativity and thought. Designs varied from pineapples stuffed with gravel, to saltshakers within cans within larger cans, to shoe boxes with vaseline. It was an informative and exciting opportunity to learn about science, interact with community helpers, be creative, and expand young minds.

PRMS Athletics

PRS hosts a variety of school sanctioned sports throughout the school year. The Alabama High School Athletic Association recognizes school sponsored athletics in grades 7-12. However, athletic opportunities for younger grades are sponsored by off campus organizations. While PRMS tries to help these groups send out information to our learners, we are not officially affiliated with these athletic teams. PRMS sponsored sports are listed on our webpage or can be found by clicking the direct link below:
