Course objectives
  • To understand and illustrate the normal anatomy of structures of different joints and the normal MRI appearance
  • To depict the important pathology changes and pitfalls of injuries of the joints updated with recent understandings
  • With emphasis on clinically useful information
  • Content and especially special focus sessions will change every course
  • The course will not address MSK ultrasound

INSTRUCTORS

Michel De Maeseneer is a Radiology Professor at the University Hospital Brussels (UZ Brussel, VUB) with chair: Johan de Mey. He trained and worked with Prof. Donald Resnick (UCSD, CA) , Jon Jacobson, (University of Michigan, MI), Thomas Pope Jr, and Leon Lenchik (Wake Forest, NC) in the USA for 8 years, and with Prof. Maryam Shahabpour at the UZ Brussels.

Dr. Veerle De Grove trained with the UZ Brussel MSK Radiology group and is staff member and part of the MSK division at Brugmann, Brussels with chair: Mieke Cannie.

  • 8.30: Focus: Basics of MRI artifacts in MSK
  • 8.50: MRI of the shoulder: Bone anatomy, tendons, footprints, muscles
  • 9.40: MRI arthrography of the shoulder: instability, ligaments and labrum, cable, pulley, variants
  • 10.20: MRI shoulder region: miscellaneous
  • 10.30: Break
  • 10.50: MRI of the elbow, tendons, ligaments, nerves
  • 11.40: MRI of the fingers
  • 12.30: Lunch
  • 13.30 : Wrist MRI: Bone, necrosis, fractures, malformations
  • 14.10: Wrist MRI: TFCC and ligament fundamentals (intrinsic, extrinsic)
  • 15: Midhand, distal tendons, and thumb
  • 15.20: Break
  • 15.40: Focus Session: Cartilage and subchondal bone
  • 16.10: Hip joint, necrosis, epyphyseal fracture, edema, impingement (FAI)

Day 2

  • 8.30: Pelvis MRI: muscles, tendons, abductors, groin
  • 9.10: MRI of SI joint: Sacroileitis and differential:
  • 9.40: Focus session: a new look at the adductors
  • 10: Break
  • 10.20: MRI of the knee: menisci, emphasis on missed tears, unstable tears, displaced fragments, pittfalls
  • 11.10: Focus session: MR knee: articular and periarticular cystic lesions
  • 11.30: MRI Knee: Postoperative
  • 10.40: MRI of the knee: ligaments and tendons
  • 11.40: Focus session: Patellotrochlear dysplasia and patellar dislocation spectrum
  • 12.30: Lunch break
  • 13.30: MRI of the ankle and foot: ligaments, impingement
  • 14.10: MRI of the ankle and foot: tendons
  • 14.50: MRI of the forefoot
  • 15.20: Break
  • 15.40: Focus session: the hallux, a 'special' toe
  • 16.10: MRI of ankle and foot nerves
  • 16.40: Focus session (ethics- economy). Visual graphics in quality improvement in radiology practice (1h).
