A Word about COVID 19
We have always been careful during flu season and that involved some social distancing. I am high risk with Asthma and allergies that make me susceptible to flu. We are especially careful now and practice social distancing of a minimum of 6 feet and preferably more. We cannot guarantee that someone will not bring COVID 19, or any other infection, onto our grounds however we will practice distancing measures and will address social distancing each and every day of camp with a SAFETY TALK. We will follow CDC recommendations and guidelines. With that being said we believe COVID 19 is here to stay, perhaps years. We do not know yet. We expect social distancing to be our new normal. With that being said we are not going to be hermits either. We enjoy life and being outdoors with our dogs and will continue to follow that lifestyle taking every precaution we can. Our Camp has always been limited to 6 children each week. That will continue. We have an outdoor pavilion which we call de' WOOFBAR. Each child will have their own directors chair and place for their dog spaced 6' apart. Each child will have their own kayak, bow for archery, or fly rod. Quite simply, we will practice being as smart as we can. Should you have any questions, ideas or advice please feel free to contact me. The bottom line is we cannot be responsible for any transference of COVID 19. Thank You. Frank L Leatherbury. CampLife@GrandHotelFishCamp
About our Camp
A classic summer camp experience like you may have had growing up. We offer a day camp for the camper and their dog where the camper will learn about dog behavior, training, and care. They will learn how to train their dog in obedience, dock diving, hunt test, field trials and other AKC styled events. Obedience will use the guidelines of AKC CANINE GOOD CITIZEN. After a morning of training, the campers and their dogs will have the opportunity to kayak and swim in Fish River and play on a sandbar with their dog. Other activities may include archery, tubing, plant and tree identification, river exploration, and fishing or fly casting. After a week with us the camper will be more than qualified to help Mom with pet care at home. Sorry, but we cannot guarantee that your dog will be qualified, they may take a little longer!
Our camp is open for campers ages 7-14. If you do not have a dog we will let you train with one of our Labrador retrievers, or with one of our foster dogs. Camp will be Monday – Friday from 9am to 3pm. Extended hours are available by special request.
For those teenagers ages 15-17 who are interested in training their dogs or a career with animals we have a volunteer program for assistant trainers and assistant camp counselors. For these opportunities please contact us directly.
We are always looking for good camp counselors. If you like working with people, training animals, and have good outdoor sports oriented skills then we are interested in speaking with you. A camp counselor for us will possess CPR First Aid certification and Lifeguard certification. We will expect you to be self disciplined, prompt and on time, and have a desire to learn. We will teach you the rest. Please contact us directly.
