Definition of Cyberbullying: Cyberbullying is bullying that takes place using electronic technology. Electronic technology includes devices and equipment such as cell phones, computers and tablets.

What laws are there in Kansas about cyberbullying? Although no federal law directly addresses bullying, in some cases, bullying overlaps with discriminatory harassment when it is based on race, national origin, color, sex,age, disability, or religion. When bullying and Harassment overlap, federally-funded schools have an obligation to resolve the harassment. When the situation is not adequately resolved, the U.S. Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights and the U.S. Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division may be able to help.

What should parents do if their child is being cyberbullied? Find out pertinent and detailed information about what the bullies are doing, dates, times, places, actions, Document everything.

What should teachers do if they hear about a student being cyberbullied? Discuss Bullying, Teach Cooperation, Develop a Plan, Take Immediate Action, Confront in Private, Involve Parents.

What should students do if they are being cyberbullied? Saving the evidence of the cyberbullying, keep abusive text messages or a screenshot of a webpage, for example, and then report them to a trusted adult, such as a family member, teacher, or school counselor. If you don't report incidents, the cyberbully will often become more aggressive. Tell a trusted adult.. What should students do if they hear about another person being cyberbullies? When possible ignore the bully, Build a wall around you, Use visualization, Stay positive, Surround yourself with people who care about you, Hang around other people, Be confident, Keep out of a bully’s way.
