Settlemyre: Support on the Infield Carolina Softball Spotlight

Freshman Abby Settlemyre had a solid weekend at the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, with a perfect fielding percentage as the Tar Heels' starting short stop. Thanks to two triples and a home run, she slugged 1.111 at the plate. Following the weekend, Abby shared more about her Tar Heel career so far.

It was pretty stressful to start my first game and I felt some pressure. But the other infielders are really supportive. They help me and communicate with me to make sure I have the sign. Everyone has been really supportive with me because they know I’m young on the field.

Abby launched triples in back-to-back games vs. Northwestern and a two-run home run vs. No. 17 Michigan.

I actually changed my swing from last weekend in Mexico to this weekend at home. Instead of putting my bat out in front and pulling it back, I just stayed still. I put my foot down instead of stepping so it helped me stay with the ball.
Last weekend weekend, my pregame routines were to straighten my hair, except Sunday when it was rainy. I always tuck in my thermal and my warmup shirt in my sliding shorts. I always eat a Gatorade protein bar.
I’ve never been to California. So just being there in general and playing big competition.

Hannah and the Tar Heels kick off the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic Thursday against Oklahoma State. Check back on twitter and GoHeels.com for more Carolina Softball spotlights throughout the season.
