About 30km southwest of Rethymno city you will come across Argyroupoli, a village located at an altitude of 260m, at the spot where Ancient Lappa used to be. The wider area stand out for the excavated parts of the ancient city, the Roman remnants, Venetian buildings and the Byzantine churches. However, Argyroupoli is known for the famous springs. Argyroupoli Springs

Argiroupoli. West and south of Rethymno, on the mountains, at the site of the ancient town of Lappa, which prospered during the Roman years. Before entering the village, on the right, the road turns to the sources of the The Holy Power, where the springs of the mountains, running from everywhere, join in small waterfalls and powerfull streams. The sound of the impetuous water, the greenery and the freshness make this place a small oasis during the summer heat. From inside the village, a foot path 2 km long, brings to the site of the ancient Necropolis, with hundreds of tombs.

Kournas lake. 28 km on the west of Rethymno, 4 km from Georgioupolis, very beautiful lake surrounded by The White Mountains. Should be visited for the wonderful scenery.

Kournas Lake

Kournas Lake is the ideal place for an afternoon walk or a daytrip nearby. Many people like to have an afternoon picnic there. The landscape is lovely and relaxing, whether you want to go for a walk in the countryside, swim or ride a pedalo on the lake.

There are two springs on the southeast bank, one of which, the Mati or Amati (“eye”) as the locals call it, is visible in late summer. The lake is fed by streams from the nearby mountains and hills, whose underground courses are interrupted by the local bedrock on the way to the sea.
