Monkton Park Newsletter Friday 3rd May 2019

#Be Internet Legends

We had a fantastic KS2 assembly this morning all about online safety. It was delivered by Paul and Hettie from Parent Zone and the children really did have a fantastic time. As part of the morning, we also had a visit from Michelle Donelan MP and a representative from Google. If your child would like to follow this up further, they can search for 'Be Internet Legends' and play the game.

Outdoor Classroom

We're hoping to announce a date soon to celebrate the opening of our outdoor classroom. We're delighted to have the structure available for the pupils and we have already seen it as a brilliant place for children to engage with the outdoors.

Since Term 4 we have been running an outdoor mentoring scheme on a Friday. Through this we have been fortunate enough to employ an experienced teacher every Friday to work with three classes (1 before break, 1 after, 1 in the afternoon). We have found this to be great professional learning for teachers, allowing them to see how the outdoor classroom & outdoor learning can be incorporated into the curriculum. By the end of Term 6 every class in the school will have had a series of lessons in this way. We hope very much to do something similar in the new academic year so that children are guaranteed regular learning outdoors.

We also run forest schools once a week for a small group of children. Children are selected by their class teacher for Forest School and over the coming terms we hope an increasing number of children will get the opportunity to take part in this.

The May Mile is back and celebrating its 10th Birthday. This is a fantasic event and is always popular with the pupils from Monkton Park School. You can register online or on the day. We look forward to see lots of you taking part.

Doorway

After our Christmas carol service family and friends kindly made donations to 'doorway'. We were pleased to be able to send them a cheque for £225.38. Thank you for your generosity.

Committee roles as secretary and communications officer for FOMPS have recently become available. If you are interested in doing a bit more behind the scenes, your help would be really appreciated. Please get in touch with us via FOMPSPTA@gmail.com

Scarecrow Trail

The week of the Scarecrow Trail is almost upon us!!! All over Monkton Park residents are working away on their creations, ready to test your knowledge on Myths and Fairytales! We have had an amazing response from the community, not only do we have 44 scarecrows on the trail this year, but local companies have got involved by sponsoring scarecrows, and thanks to their support we have raised an amazing £450 already.

We look forward to welcoming you to the trail next week; remember we have a BBQ (sponsored by Huw Thomas Commercial) and refreshment stand at the school and a refreshment stop half way round on The Tinings, with money raised from both going to the school. The Trail sheet costs £3 and can be purchased at the school on Saturday or Sunday... and remember there are prizes for the most correct answers, and for the scarecrow voted the best by everyone who attends.

We would welcome donations of cakes for the refreshment stalls to the school office on both Friday and Saturday, we anticipate a busy weekend! Big cakes that can be sliced up will go down especially well at the Trail, but do consider the potential for warmer weather melting your creation!

Monkfest

The Monkfest organising sub-committee will be meeting on Friday 10th May so if you are interested in making something to sell or preparing a stall, please contact us via FOMPSPTA@gmail.com

Thank you
