MAC News Issue 12 2017

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

This week we near the halfway point for Term 3, and what an eventful Term it has been so far! With our annual Multicultural Night, Trial HSC exams, Academic Olympics, our STEM Challenge and Science Fair not to mention all the various Sports Gala Days our students have been involved in, there is always something happening here at MAC and we are thankful for all the different experiences our students get to participate in and enjoy as part of their education at our College.

This coming Sunday we have our College Open Day and Family Fun Day. Open Day is a great day for our College families to come along, support the school and enjoy the rides, food and fun. It is also a great day to bring along any family and friends that are currently searching for a school for their children, as there will be College Tours at different times during the afternoon, and it is a relaxed and interactive for them to learn more about what Adventist education can offer. Our Specialist Block, which houses our Art, Music and TAS classrooms will also have it's opening ceremony on the day, to be attended by the Hon. Concetta Fierravanti-Wells. Primary School choir will be singing and the College band will be playing during the ceremony.

For the children, there are many different rides to enjoy, such as dodgem cars, whirlwind, cup and saucer, storm rider, giant slide and bubble soccer. Please remember that unlimited ride wristbands are available from the office for an early bird price of $20 (they will be $30 on the day).

We look forward to seeing all our College families come together for what will be a wonderful day!

World of Maths Roadshow - 28th and 29th August

Numeracy is a compulsory component of our curriculum, and to make numeracy fun and relevant to our students, we have arranged for the World of Maths Roadshow to visit our school. The World of Maths Roadshow is an ideal opportunity for students to see how maths is applied to some real life situations.

More importantly, students will be engaged in hands-on activities that will cater for all ability levels and probe their problem solving skills. It is a highly engaging session which will show the children that Maths can be fun!

U/16 Boys Rugby League

On the 7th August Macarthur Adventist entered an U/16's Boys team in the annual Christian Schools Rugby League 7's Championships held in Penrith, Jamison Park.

Macarthur played other Christian schools from the area as well as schools that travelled from Newcastle and the Central Coast. Under windy and hot conditions Macarthur played competitive rugby, using their speed, size and skill to their advantage notching up two early wins against St George CS and St Phillips CC as Ephraim Taisala led from the front in making barging metres.

Their next game against Lakes Grammar would prove to extend the boys as handling errors and defence took their toll and they were on the back foot early on. The boys managed to apply pressure and execute tries with Christian Savaiinaea and Octavian Paulo combining to put Lafaele Moananu into space where he put on blistering pace. Lakes Grammar proved to be too strong on the day with Macarthur going down by a few tries.

The following matches against Richard Johnson AC and Toongabbie CS were tough fought games, as niggling injuries and fatigue started to play a part. Macarthur's Josaia Ramatai's and Christopher Tonga's second efforts and Anthony Makafana's defence saw Macarthur build pressure to enable Jarrod Fletcher to score and setup tries, with Taimoor Bhutta's reliable boot to add the extras. With great team spirit and hard running the boys were able to stick to their structures and improve on their defence to win both games convincingly to progress to the semi finals.

The semi final was a rematch against Richard Johnson AC where despite limited interchange and injuries sustained to players, Macarthur was able to dig deep and put on a performance they can be proud of. Macarthur narrowly lost 26- 24 to Richard Johnson AC.

The U/16s boys should be proud of their efforts as they represented Macarthur in the right spirit of the game and never gave up until the final whistle.

(L- R) Coach: S. Ratu, Chris Tonga, Ephraim Taisala, Jarrod Fletcher,Octavian Paulo, Christian Savaiinaea, Dontay Perez ( Trainer), Josaia Ramatai, Tai-moor Bhutta, Anthony Makafana, Lafaele Moananu,

Chaplaincy News

Hi MAC Family,

Praise the Lord for His faithfulness and Mercy towards us.

Lamentations 3:22-23 “The steadfast Love of the Lord never ceases, His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is His faithfulness”

Thank you to you all for your prayers. Looking forward to seeing you this coming Sunday 20th August for our College Open Day.

Next week, from the 21st-25th of August we have our Senior SWAT Week. This is an important time of the year for our students and staff to be involved in a week of singing , acting, leading out etc. A time where they can use their gifts to praise God and experience a special blessing through the hearing of God's Word. Our Guest Speaker for our week of prayer is Charissa Fong. Charissa loves the Lord and has a passion to share Jesus with young people around the world.

On Saturday the 26th of August, Charissa will be speaking again in the College hall at 11am. You and your family and friends are all welcome to join us. During the Saturday we will provide lunch and have a time to sit and fellowship together. Following that Saturday evening we will have social games at school to celebrate the end of our SWAT week. Again, we are more than happy for you to join our social games night on 26th August.

MAC Campbelltown Service visitation

Last Sabbath MAC was blessed with an opportunity to lead out the Main Service (Divine Service) at Campbelltown Seventh Day Adventist Church. We had a great time and students took part in singing, sharing, public speaking and just a great time to fellowship with our Church family in Campbelltown. Our very own Chaplain, Abigail Figueroa gave a powerful uplifting message. Thank you to Campbelltown Church for the invitation and for topping it up with yummy food (lunch) to finish our Sabbath together.

Thank you for hospitality.

May our Good Lord continue to guide and bless you all. Amen.
