Voting Rights Act of 1965 By:Morgan Manley

This is the document is the official Voting Rights Act. You can also see that President Johnson signed this along with the Vice President and Speaker of House of Representatives. It was aimed to overcome legal barriers at the state and local levels. It stopped excuses from letting African Americans vote. For example, the literacy test were used to test the voters to see if they were smart enough knowing the Blacks didn't get the same kind of education.
Lyndon B. Johnson and Martin Luther King Jr. meet to discuss the Voting Rights Act. President Johnson strongly endorsed this act and Martin Luther King Jr. was a social activist at this time.
The New York newspaper printed articles on how the blacks gained voting rights. Many riots were going on in the streets due to the Voting Rights Act being passed.
These political cartoons show how African Americans were treated when they tried to vote. The supreme court was not happy with this decision. They either made them take literacy test or threw the ballots away.
