Headteacher Comment

Where there is a will, there is a way!

As we are still settling into the new way of working, this week we have experimented with how to run assemblies across the school. My job was made far more pleasurable on Monday when we had our first whole school 'live' assembly. The delight on the children's faces and the joy I could hear coming from classrooms made the act of coming together all the more meaningful. Look out for TEAMS invitations coming out to parents of families whose children are due to receive awards in celebration assembly over the coming weeks.

You may have noticed that we were joined by our new community police officer, Kerry York, on the school gate. She is keen to work closely with us all at the school, to help the children of Greenfields Primary School and Nursery be the best citizens they can be and how to stay safe. It is lovely to feel well supported.

Finally, a massive shout out to you all. We can see that there have been more than 500 entries onto our new reading log system which gives you a way of sharing what your child is reading at home. Your child's class teacher checks your comments regularly and you'll already know just how important reading practise is so thank you and keep it up.

Have a lovely weekend.

Maeve gets an Ambassador!

Maeve is a very lucky dog. She now has a school ambassador called Jessica from Proud Lions. Both Jessica and Maeve are very proud indeed! Jessica take on responsibility for helping to care for Maeve when it is a working day for her. They already get on very well and training is on track.

Happy learners in the sun

This week Remarkable Rhinos took advantage of the beautiful weather by taking their learning outside. As part of our lesson on the circulatory system children mapped out the human body veins and blood vessels. We learnt a lot about the body including the role of our blood cells. Possible doctors in the making?

Year 4

Counting Dragonflies

Dragonflies have enjoyed their maths this week, counting and ordering to 10. Not only a great skill but a very good challenge for our reception class. What a super effort from you all.

Sunshine, Spanish and Meerkats

This week, Marvellous Meerkats spent some time in the glorious sun, where they revised the different fruits in Spanish. To do this, they worked in small groups, using chalk to draw the different fruits and then practiced writing the name of each fruit, underneath their drawings, in Spanish. Mr Leach was super impressed with the high-quality teamwork children demonstrated in this activity.

A Mountain Troll

On Monday, Year Six discovered a mystery creature lurking in the playground. They were alarmed to see trees swaying, branches snapping and roaring echoing around the playground. When they stepped closer they found a grass covered moving ‘thing’ which they later found out was a Mountain Troll. Fortunately the creature has now been removed . They loved our hook session for their new English unit and can’t wait to start writing about the Mountain Troll.

Year 6

Bubble Wrap painting

Busy Bees have been busy artists this week, enjoying using different media to paint on when engaged in creative learning.

More About Trolls

The children had a shocking day this week in Year 6! The school forest area was invaded by a humungous, baby mountain troll. They were lucky that the mother wasn’t in the vicinity as mother trolls can be very protective. The children wrote superb witness statements about the incident, there will be further English writing opportunities related to our 'hook day'

Google Classroom

We loved using Google Classroom to keep our learning going during lockdown and we were delighted that 99% of children at Greenfields accessed it to keep in touch with their teachers, to keep up with friends and complete their learning.

To keep Google Classroom going successfully this year, we have tried to make access simpler, by renaming your child’s Google Classroom from last year with this year’s class name. So, for example, if you child was in Smart Snakes (Year 2) and has moved to Marvellous Meerkats (Year 3), their Google Classroom code will not have changed, and they should log in as before. Classes where last year’s Google Classrooms are being continued into the new year are highlighted in yellow.

Year 4/5 classes may need to use a new access code and follow the link below. Similarly, Year 1 Google Classrooms are completely new, as parents used Tapestry last year.

Teachers are looking forward to posting their first ‘Flipping Greenfields’ video of the term in time for the weekend. It will be all about next week’s learning, so will get your child off to a flying start on Monday. Research shows that children who feel prepared for the coming week are less anxious about school, happier to get up and go on a Monday morning and achieve better than those who are not.

If you have not used Google Classroom before, or you are new to Greenfields, please follow this link that explains how to log on to a PC, Android or Apple device. You will need your child’s email address and password, and the class codes below:
