The Life of Carolyn About me

Beginnings: I was born March 31, 1997 in Springfield, Massachusetts. My parents names are Kim and Mark and I have one sister who is five years older than me named Gloria. For all of my life I have lived in Westfield, Massachusetts and I consider myself a true homebody. I love spending time with my family and I am close with all of my relatives. I have several younger cousins that I consider some of my best friends and I go home at least once every week or so to see everyone! I also have a dog named Pepper who I absolutely adore. Family is such a big part of my life and I am truly blessed to have such a loving and supportive one.

My family

At home I have a lot of close friends that I have been friends with since elementary school. I consider myself more of a "quality over quantity" type of person when it comes to friends and keep the closest ones I have near to my heart. All of my friends go to school at different places, some even in different states, but when we see each other again it is like no time has passed. Some of our favorite things to do are go to the movies, go out to eat, or even just hang out and talk.

Middle: I decided to come to UMass because I felt it was close enough to home that I could still visit often but also far enough away that I could feel independent. I am a sophomore now and since coming here I have made a solid group of friends, found out how much I really love to write, and, just this year, joined a sorority. It took some time adjusting to the big campus, but now I can't imagine myself anywhere else. There are still times where the overwhelming amount of people and activity can make me feel a little lonely or homesick, but with all of my friends by my side it has been easy to keep happy.

I am in the sorority Sigma Delta Tau and I absolutely love it. I have met some of my closest friends through it and have made amazing memories. We also do a lot of philanthropy work and give back to the community, which really makes me feel like I am making a difference. Our philanthropies are the American Heart Association and Prevent Child Abuse America. Sometimes sororities and fraternities get a bad reputation, but I absolutely love mine. We all love each other, have fun, and give back at the same time. These girls I have met only mere months ago do truly feel like my sisters now.

Outside of school my interests include beauty, fashion, cooking, reading, and writing. I love to do my makeup and one day hope to start my own beauty blog or Youtube channel. I spend a lot of my free time watching HTGV, The Food Network, and makeup tutorials on Youtube. I also love to shop. My mom says it's a definite addiction of mine. I consider myself a very kind and fun-loving person. I can come off as shy sometimes, but all of my friends know that I am actually the furthest thing from that. I do love making new friends and having fun at school, but I am also very dedicated to my studies. I am interested in pursuing Journalism and maybe Early Childhood Education. Some people say I should have what I want to do figured out by now, but I think that's crazy! I'm only nineteen! I have taken a lot of experimental classes and still am trying to figure out what I truly want to do, but so far Journalism has been very interesting to me.

I also love going to concerts. I have been to over 30! My favorite concerts that I have been to include One Direction, Justin Bieber, and The 1975. I have also seen Ariana Grande, Lana Del Rey, Demi Lovato, and more in concert as well. Going to concerts in the summer is my favorite thing. Just last summer I saw Justin Bieber on his comeback tour and it was amazing... I am going to see him again this summer in New Jersey, and also The 1975 in June. I just can't help but spend all of my money on concert tickets.. and I definitely don't regret it.

End: My dream job would to be to work at a magazine such as Cosmopolitan or Seventeen so that I could write about beauty and fashion. I also love Buzzfeed and think it would be very cool to work for them as they have lots of quirky and creative posts. I like to include a lot of my own voice in my writing and make it creative, which has proven to be problematic in some of my journalism classes. I guess I just like to try and have a modern, fun twist on journalism! I can't imagine myself sitting in an office and writing about politics or facts, but rather things I find personally fun and interesting-- whether that be new lipstick, celebrities, or a new recipe I have tried. Although this may seem like "pointless news" to some, I have to object. You should be able to write about whatever makes you happy!

One of my favorite eyeshadow palettes-- my desk in my dorm room is filled with makeup! Some may say it's crazy, I say it's completely necessary

In the future I can see myself moving to a city like Boston or New York City to try and further my career. I can also see myself having several (possibly too many) dogs as I am an avid animal lover. Look out for my name featured in Cosmopolitan stories in the future!
