Kamiak Parent Bulletin June 15th - June 19th

Collecting Personal Belongings and Returning School Property:

We are preparing to bring the 2019-2020 school year to a close and head to summer. Before that happens, there are two very important tasks for all of us: collecting school property from students; and, returning students’, property.

Please follow this plan for dates and times. Students with items left in PE lockers will be able to come collect those items from 2 to 4pm on June 16th. There are two opportunities for students to complete the collection and distribution process:

  • June 17th from 11:30am to 3:30pm
  • June 18th from 12:00pm to 4:00pm

Please follow this plan for instructions on how students can collect personal belongings stored in lockers. Otherwise, personal belongings that are in lockers now will remain in lockers until students return in the Fall.

Please note that we are asking anyone who is unwell, diagnosed with COVID-19, or living with someone diagnosed with COVID-19 not come onto school grounds. Alternative arrangements may be made by contacting Stephen Shurtleff (425-366-5421, Assistant Principal).

Yearbook Information:

Our yearbook team did an amazing job completing the yearbook and submitted it for publication. The pandemic caused delays first in printing, but ultimately in shipping. Therefore, the yearbooks are scheduled to arrive in August. At this time, we are not doing refunds as the yearbooks are already paid for, printed, and planned to be shipped. Once we receive a definitive arrival date, we will develop a distribution plan, which will likely look nearly identical to our cap/gown distribution day: distribution by waves, with a make-up session time. Students will show their ID, sign for their book, and we will the pass the yearbook through the window. In the event we can do August Business Days (and we have the books), we may distribute on those days as well. Thank you, like everything else, for your patience!

virtual graduation video:

Congratulations to the Class of 2020!

The virtual graduation video can be viewed by clicking this link. We are excited to see you on Friday, June 19 for the Fast Pass Graduation Celebration. For more information, visit the Senior Class Page.

“Fast Pass Graduation Celebration”:

We are approved to celebrate our graduates in style!! Mark your calendar and plan to attend the “Fast Pass Graduation Celebration” on Friday, June 19 from 10:00AM – 6:00PM (see below for wave assignments). The event will begin at the South end (PAC side) of campus and finish on the North end (Gym side). We will queue cars five at a time (so that families can watch) in front of an outdoor stage. Graduates will receive their diploma and a cover; we will read graduates’ name aloud as they walk across a stage. Each graduate will have a professional photo taken. For this event, students are welcome to do the following

  • Decorate their caps (please keep it “clean” and respectful)
  • Wear leis
  • Wear Running Start or military stoles and/or honor cords.

Graduates are assigned by waves based on last name. There are eight (8) waves to accommodate the amount of time it will take to properly acknowledge each graduate.

  • 10AM -11AM: A – B
  • 11AM -12PM: C – Fo
  • 12PM – 1PM: Fr – H
  • 1PM – 2PM: I – Lee
  • 2PM – 3PM: Lei – Ne
  • 3PM – 4PM: Ng – R
  • 4PM – 5PM: S – T
  • 5PM – 6PM: U – Z

The question has been asked “how many cars per graduate?” PLEASE limit the number of cars to TWO (2)-one behind the other-so that we can effectively and efficiently honor each graduate.

We also ask that all families follow the designated driving path while entering and exiting Kamiak.

This event will be very memorable and is a much deserved recognition for our graduates. We look forward to seeing you and celebrating you on June 19!

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE CLASS OF 2020!

We would like to thank all of you who responded to our survey. We understand that these are uncertain times as we wait for Governor Inslee to move through the COVID-19 order for a phased re-opening of Washington. We need to reach Phase 4 to move forward with our Grad Knight party. We would like to dispel any rumors that this event has been cancelled. Please note this is not a school sponsored event.

Based upon the survey results, rescheduling the party to the last week of July was the most popular option based on the opening of our economy and before graduates head off to college. We have reserved our venues for Wednesday, July 29th. Details to follow. Tickets still available. Tell all your friends!

We are working hard to get you all back together one last time. Following are comments received from students on our survey:

“Any date is good with us. We just want to celebrate!”

“I just like want it to happen! even if it’s pushed-out I would like the experience, and prom too but ya know whichever works!”

“In person please! Even requiring we stay in small groups is fine. As long as it's not virtual I don't mind.”

Please direct all inquiries to GradKnight2020@gmail.com. We will post any updates the GradKnight Committee requests for us to help publicize.

Your Grad Knight Committee.

Need help accessing your Family Access Portal? Please refer to these instructions.

flyers HAVE GONE digital:

Say goodbye to crumpled flyers at the bottom of student backpacks that surface after an opportunity has passed. We have implemented an electronic flyer distribution system, PEACHJAR. Families will get flyers in their email inbox instead. Schools and outside organizations will have a more accessible, environmentally friendly and interactive way of sharing flyers and newsletters. Primary guardians with an email address on file at their child’s school will automatically begin receiving flyers by email. If a family member would like to also receive them, they can subscribe on the school website.

Blackboard Connect Portal:

The school district uses a system called Blackboard Connect to send important messages to parents via telephone, text, and email. If you would like to change to the way you receive messages, login to your Blackboard Connect Portal and edit your contact information.

Change in School Closure or Delay Notification:

This year, you will receive a phone message and email from the district if we close or delay school. This helps ensure we reach everyone, including those without an email address on file, before students stand outside at a bus stop, and before parents leave for work. If you added a text message number in the Blackboard portal, you will also receive a text message. As usual, it will also be posted on the district website and posted through FlashAlert, which also feeds into mainstream local news feeds.

Mukilteo School District complies with federal and state rules and regulations and does not discriminate in any programs or activities on the basis of sex, race, creed, religion, color, national origin, age, veteran or military status, sexual orientation, gender expression or identity, disability, or the use of a trained dog guide or service animal and provides equal access to the Boy Scouts and other designated youth groups. The following individuals have been designated to handle questions or complaints of alleged discrimination: Title IX Officer - Bruce Hobert (425-356-1319), Section 504 Coordinator – Lisa Pitsch (425-356-1277), and the ADA/Access Coordinator – Karen Mooseker (425-356-1330), all located at 9401 Sharon Drive in Everett, WA 98204.
