Valentines Decorating Contest

Valentine Decorating Contest and MakerSpace Activity next week.

The Library will be sponsoring a Valentine Decorating Contests, one for students and one for teachers. February 10th -13th students may use the MakerSpace and supplies to create their valentines but they must have a pass with "valentines" written on it. Space will be limited, so please send students who have finished their work and really want to make valentines. Students (and teachers) may also make their valentines at home and bring them to the library to enter by February 13th. . . .Chocolate will most likely be part of the prize . . .

4th Annual NTTBF Field Trip

North Texas Teen Book Festival March 7, 2020

The library will be sponsoring a field trip to the North Texas Teen Book Festival at the Irving Convention Center on March 7, 2020. This is a spectacular experience for anyone, but students have a great time meeting and listening to famous teen authors and hanging out with their friend in a fun, safe, mentally stimulating environment.

  • One or two volunteers are needed to help chaperone our students. (We have to make sure they all get back on the bus when it's time to go. They are having so much fun, they want to stay!) I promise, it's a lot of fun if you like reading and have the time to help out.

Space is limited and only students with good behavior will be allowed to attend. Permission forms are available from Mrs. Onco.

#PerplexusChallenge Winners

Perplexus Challenge Winners!

Competing in the Perplexus Challenge is a lot harder than it looks. It takes a steady hand, and logical, focused mind to be able to get that little ball bearing through the 70 challenging steps you need to to complete the maze. The prize was that they got to keep a Perplexus ball, but we still have two left in the library if you'd like to test your skills.

Congratulate Kevin and Colyn if you see them. They are the Perplexus champs at IMMS!

Collaboration Invitation

As I close out this newsletter, I want remind you that the library is your library too, not just our students'. I hope you feel welcome to come sit, plan, read or hang out with our kids, as your schedule allows. The library is a fun place, but it's also a place of learning.

I just found out that we most likely won't be hiring a library aide this year, which was not really a surprise to me, but it was a bit of a disappointment. I was hoping to be able to get out there and meet with you all more, attend PLCs and grade level meetings. I realized, however, that we can still do it. It will take planning and a creative mindset, but we are teachers after all, so that's what we do.

There is tremendous space up in the library and I'd like to formally invite you to consider having some of your meetings up here. Also, feel free to shoot me an email if you'd like to bring a class up to check out books, or even just have your class in the library change of scenery. (We have a beautiful tree view as well as a view of downtown Fort worth.) In addition, the library has a marvelous computer lab with super fast new computers.

As a side note, I would love to showcase student work. We have plenty of places for great displays and our students' work is really what it's all about.

In short, it's just as Helen Keller said, "Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much."
