ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

During the next few days, she practiced her sword moves and by the end, she was ready to take Colin on.

Salina held her sword ready as he ran forward. She parried his strike and ducked under his sword as he swiped. She used a horizontal cut , but he dodged out of the way just in the time. He lunged forward and she held her sword out as a block, twisting her arm and knocking his sword out of his hand.

She pointed her sword to his neck and he grinned.

"You're ready." He said

MIDDLE SCHOOL

9th GRADE

10th GRADE

Thomas remembered her saying, “I’ll come back. I promise”

And she had. Here was living proof of her promise. But now her teeth were pearl-white and straight. Red lipstick covered her soft pouty lips, and mascara lengthened her already-long eyelashes. Her hands were manicured and soft next to Thomas’ calloused dirty hands.

“I don’t think you are the same.”

Thomas shoved his hands in his pockets and stepped away from her. Even as she tried to stutter a response, he could see the way she stared at his dirty hoodie and ripped jeans.

“I’ll see you later.”

He pulled the hood over his curly hair and walked through the trees, leaving Lana alone in the dying light.
