The Best of What Canada Has to Offer by: Vickram KAler

Toronto Raptors

Toronto Raptors are a professional basketball team in Toronto, Ontario. They play in the NBA (National Basketball Association). There are 30 teams in the NBA. There are 82 games per season. Each game is 48 minutes long, with 4 quarters which are 12 minutes each and halftime break is 15 minutes long. The team was found in 1995. The Raptors had to play in the Skydome for 2 seasons while their own arena was being built. They play in the Air Canada Center. The head coach of the Raptors is Dwayne Casey. The fans were allowed to choose the team name. The names suggested by the fans were Beavers, Bobcats, Dragons, Grizzlies, Hogs, Scorpions, T-Rex, Tarantulas, Terriers and Raptors. The name Raptors was the best fit for the team. Toronto and Vancouver were the only teams in Canada to be in the NBA. Vancouver Grizzlies moved to Memphis in 2001, afterwards Raptors became the only Canadian team. The best Raptors player in history is Vince Carter. He is the best dunker in Raptors history and he won slam dunk contests. His cousins, Tracy McGardy was also on the team with him. The ambassador for the Raptors is Drake (Francis). The 2 best all-stars on the Raptors right now is Demar Derozan and Kyle Lowry. Demar's jersey number is 10 and Lowry's is 7. Demar's salary is 26.5 million dollars and Kyle's is 12 million dollars. Demar averages 27.9 points per game in this season so far while Kyle averages 22.8 points per game ("Toronto Raptors").

I think that Toronto Raptors is important in Canada because they are the only Canadian Basketball team in the NBA and they represent Canada and Toronto in a unique way.

CN Tower

The CN Tower was the tallest structure until 2007, when Burj Khalifa became the tallest structure, making the CN Tower 2nd. The CN Tower is located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. To build the tower it cost 52 million dollars and the first time it opened up was on June 26, 1976. The tower is 553 meters tall with glass elevators. The elevators take 58 seconds to get to get to 346 meters. At 346 meters tall, there is a restaurant and a glass floor. Each year around 2 million people visit the CN Tower. At night, the CN Tower is beautiful because of the lighting system. The CN Tower lights up from bottom to top in bright beautiful colours. Each night a little before sunset, the CN Tower will showcase colours which are red and white to honour Canada. On November 8, 2011 the Edge Walk was presented. The Skypod is located at 447 meters. The CN Tower is located on 301 Front St W, Toronto, Ontario M5V 2T6, Canada (Mcmordie and "Night Lighting- CN Tower").

I think that CN Tower is important in Canada because it represents Toronto residents and Canadians also. The CN Tower is very attractive and beautiful and lots tourists from other countries will love to visit the CN Tower.

Multiculturalism

Multiculturalism started in Canada in the 1960s. Multiculturalism is used to refer to an ideal of equality/ mutual respect among population's cultural groups and to refer to policies made by federal government in 1971. Pierre Trudeau declared its commitment of multiculturalism. By doing that, it meant that it assigned a policy to protect and promote diversity, the rights for aboriginal people and to support Canada's two main languages (Burnet). In 2011, Canada had a foreign born population of around 6,775,800 people and between the years 2006-2011, around 1,162,900 foreign born people had immigrated to Canada ("Immigration and Ethnocultural Diversity in Canada"). In the year 2001, 23,991,900 people are Canadian born and 5,448,500 are immigrants. The top 10 immigrant countries in 2001 were United Kingdom, China, Italy, India, United States, Hong Kong, Philippines, Poland, Germany and Portugal. Canada allows 250,000 immigrants and refugees each year ("Recent Immigrants in Metropolitan Areas: Canada- A comparative profile based on the 2001 census" and Butler).

I think that Multiculturalism is important in Canada because Canada needs to be represented in a way which people believe that the country is loving and allows people from other countries to be welcomed and cared for.
