Principal Report 2019 | TERM TWO | 28 JUNE

Last week all staff participated in a workshop run by ResourceSmart School’s. ResourceSmart School’s is a free program offered by Sustainability Victoria that supports Victorian schools to embed sustainability across the school facilities, community and curriculum, while saving resources and money for the school.

The workshop was an excellent reminder to all of us about how our world is in Climate Crisis. We discussed all the things that we can continue to do to be resource smart, and more things that we can do to help our world in crisis.

We watched the speech by 15-year-old climate activist Greta Thunberg at the COP24 in Katowice. This speech was moving and reminded all of us that we need to act now.

We are currently looking at better solutions to reduce energy and looking at ways to spread the word to everyone to reduce the amount of plastic that goes to landfill. I was impressed with the efforts of Freya (Year 4) and Dante (Year 1), who bring their snacks in a cotton bag, an idea that came from Japan. This is something that I believe we can all do. Go Nude Food!

Chess Tournament

Last Thursday, students from our school went to Oak Park Primary to participate in an interschool Chess Tournament under the auspices of the Victorian Chess Association. This was a Chess Victoria approved zonal tournament.

There were 120 students from 7 different schools who competed throughout the day. All students played 7 games during which, points were allocated with medals and prizes awarded to winners. The winning school was Fitzroy Community School (Thornbury campus). Riley Dimsey got a medal for his age group and Heze Napitupulu placed third overall.

Many thanks to Grant, our Chess Master for organising the tournament. Great job by the Coburg North team!

Building Update

The concrete slab was poured this week. This is a great start to our building. The final asbestos removal will be done this weekend and the demolition of the Admin building will be done during the holidays. This will assist the builders to speed up their completion date.

The end date of completion will now be the 20th December. This does not include rain days, which could possibly mean that the end date will be in January. I have informed the builders that they need to be completed by the 20th January (week before school starts). It is all happening now. Hooray!

Thank You Triva Night :)

Trivia Night was another great success this year. I’d like to thank all of the people involved in making this night happen. A lot of hours and creative thought went into the night. The school is grateful for all of P&Fs efforts as well as other members from the community who joined in. We are growing a playground fund that will benefit the students of CNPS. A BIG HEARTFELT THANK YOU!!!!!!!

Safe Holidays

I would like to wish everyone a safe and happy holiday break during the winter. What ever it is that you are doing, traveling, staying at home, going out for day trips.... make sure that you keep safe, and warm! Enjoy your time away from school and I will see you all back ready for another great semester.
