Communicating Crisis The Bruce McArthur Case Study

The Bruce McArthur Case

On January 18, 2018, Bruce McArthur was arrested for 8 counts of murder. Prior to his arrest, the Toronto Police Service (TPS) conducted a 8 year investigation that led to his arrest. McArthur found his victims from a well known queer focused apps. Because of longevity of the investigation, many civilians doubted TPS’s capabilities to handle this case and bring it to justice. The reputation of the police and it’s relationship with Toronto’s LGTB+ community quickly diminished.
