(Warning, double blog, double the number of photos!!)
Heidi, Karl, Gabi and Kristian were our perfect hosts and went above and beyond with their hospitality!
Every day they provided assistance with transportation - dropping off & picking up those who required it, advice on activities and what to see in Salzburg, joining us for our evening meals and being completely at our beck and call. Our Salzburg adventure was so much the richer and enjoyable due to their complete devotion and amazing hospitality in ensuring we all had a great experience of their beloved city.
It was festival time in Salzburg with Saint Rupert day being celebrated so we got to see more of the locals than tourists as they were out in force all dressed up in their traditional Austrian Dirndl and Lederhosen, such a beautiful sight as people of all ages gathered together to socialise and drink beer.
Our activities included The Sound of Music Tour, the Salzburg Castle and lots of Walking around and exploring the old town.
Jenny instantly fell in love with the Austrian Dirndl and played dress ups with all the girls when we were entertained at Gabi and Christians place. Heidi later during our time in Salzburg presented Jenny with one of her mother’s Dirndl for her to keep!
It wasn’t long before she was out wearing it in Salzburg and prancing around like an Austrian Royal before heading to a solo Piano recital in the Mirabell Palace Chapel.
Before we knew it, it was time to say our good byes to our new special Austrian friends and all our Aussie cycling buddies before catching a train with Cathy and Michael to Hallstatt.
