Diamond Edge September 2020

Teaching and Learning

This September will be “Forward Planning” Month. In anticipation of a lengthy school closure, Diamond Lake teachers planned forward a curriculum to address the 3rd trimester priority standards from the previous school year. In September, teachers and students will focus on those priority standards with the intent to assess student readiness in early October. The Star Reading and Math Assessments will be administered October 5th - 9th allowing teachers to gauge their student’s current academic performance and prepare learning that best meets their needs. The Star Assessment will be administered remotely and more information will follow in mid September.

Facilities

D76 completed a roofing project at West Oak Campus over the summer which completely replaced the old section of the roof which was more than 30 years old. The new roof will protect the building renovation projects from the previous summer for many years to come.

Finance

2020-21 Budget Approved

The Board of Education officially adopted the 2020-21 budget at their 9.15.20 meeting. Please click HERE to view the budget presentation. While the fiscal year planning shows an operating surplus of just over $400K, most of the surplus can be attributed to a reduction in spending on transportation. The District’s fund balances remain at financially healthy levels and the District is committed to closely monitoring all spending throughout the year. Besides salaries, primary expenditures this year will focus on our classroom renovation project which includes new furniture, flooring, and HVAC upgrades.

Instructional Technology & Communications

In an effort of continual technology support for our families our Technology Department alongside our Instructional Technology Committee are hosting several Virtual Parent Technology Nights followed up by a Q&A session. Each virtual event is in webinar format and starts with a pertinent topic presentation including foundational resources, student help desk procedures, video conferencing, student devices, and best practices.
