"It’s a great time to go and be part of the Church of Jesus Christ."
This Pandemic is not the end of the world, but the end of an era. We must avoid the mentality that says, “Let’s hang in there so we can soon resume everything the way it was.” The economy, professional sports, health care, jobs, schools, travels, childcare, shopping, restaurants, entertainment centres, elections, funerals, etc. have all been impacted dramatically.
At the same time God is working powerfully and bringing defining changes to the Church to purify, develop endurance and lay out lessons so we are better prepared for the “last days perilous times.” (2 Timothy 3:1)
We need to reflect, realign, re-calibrate & reset and not miss this unexpected, unbelievable teachable moment. I see three areas for adjustments coming along our way.
- DECONSTRUCTION: We need to deconstruct our prevailing gospel presentation to highlight repentance, the Lordship and The Kingdom of God, as emphasized in the Word. There is simply no biblical basis for a “Jesus as Saviour only” message. The content of our message determines the quality of our converts.
- DISTRIBUTION: God’s blueprint in Eph. 4:11-16 tells us the Church is not a building but a body; Christianity is not an auditorium-centered, spectator-sport with leaders given only for educating (or entertaining) but “for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry;” Spiritual Gifts are essential but not optional so “every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.” Ministry must be distributed throughout the body of believers. Christians must discover and develop their Spiritual Gifts and be deployed and distributed outside buildings into lives. The Pandemic will accelerate God’s original purpose by thrusting us out of buildings that are closed.
- DECENTRALIZATION: The church must be decentralized to express the New Testament model that Christianity is not merely a meeting to attend but a life to be shared. The church is not built primarily on services but relationships (Acts 2:42-47). God is first and foremost concerned with the quality of our work not the quantity, for it will all be tested by fire in the final judgment to either “receive a reward” or see it be “burned” (1 Cor. 3:10-15)
It’s a great time to go and be part of the Church of Jesus Christ. Come, whatever, His Church will not fail because He is committed to build His Church. Matt. 16:18 “And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock, I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.
