First Grade!

We are excited for our Valentine's Day project/virtual party on Friday!

Plus... Tuesday, February 16th, is the 101st day of school, so we are having a Dalmatian Day! Dress your firstie like a Dalmatian, in polka dots, or in black and white.

In addition to the fun, what else is fun??? READING! Please make sure your child reads for at least 10 minutes every day outside of school hours. As always, thank you for all you do!

Third Grade

We're exploring with magnets in our Motion and Matter Science unit. Please look for magnets around your home to use when you are virtual.

In Math this week, the focus is on the Multiplication strategies of patterns and "doubling" - using your 2s to know your 4s. Using your 4s to know your 8s. Using your 3s to know your 6s and so on. Please reinforce this at home. We need your help with encouraging your child to learn their facts since it is the basic foundation for all the Math they will learn moving forward.

Thank you, in advance, to our Homeroom Coordinators for planning this week's Virtual Valentine's Day parties. Thanks for your continued support at home. We have amazing 3rd Grade Families!

Finally, it's important that your child come to school with their own supplies, especially sharpened pencils (or pencils and a hand-held sharpener). we cannot share supplies due to COVID. Thank you for your help with this.

Fourth Grade

As you know we're studying multiplication in Unit 4 in Everyday Math. If your child still relies on using a multiplication chart to solve their basic facts, please invest in a pack of flash cards from the Dollar Store or have them make up their own using index cards. They could also use Xtra Math on a regular basis. These are great ways to strengthen their skills. Your children are probably learning different ways to multiply than you did many years ago. Ask them to show you how to solve a 2 or 3 digit number times a 1 digit number. We've learned two ways, one called partitioned rectangles and another called partial products. You may be surprised to learn a new way yourself. Letting them teach it to you will be great practice for them.

This week we started our new Science Unit on Energy. Take a look at their textbook and workbook with them. There are many extension activities that could be done at home. The Foss website is another great resource. The children know how to get on it (through the Clever link). They'll be able to do virtual activities since they will not be able to participate in those "hands on" lessons as in the past.

We're looking forward to our virtual Valentine's Day parties this Friday where the children will make cards to go along with the breakfast bags the staff members will be assembling. Many thanks to those of you who sent in donations. There's still time to do so this week. They'll be creating a virtual Valentine to share with the rest of the class as well.

Finally, don't forget February is family reading month. Your children can access the reading calendar through your child's teacher's Google Classroom. At the end of the month, you will be asked to complete a form to attest to their daily reading. Thank you so much for encouraging them to read each and every day.

PTO News

Hello ER Families ❤

Each year, the students of ER participate in a service project that provides breakfast bags to members of the ER community that are unable to leave their homes. The PTO and students of ER have been participating in this project for the past 10+ years. It is a great way to work with the students on the importance of community service and taking care of their community.

For this project, we are collecting breakfast items to create individual breakfast bags that Caring for Friends will distribute to those in need. This year, we are doing grade level specific items. Our goal as a school is to make 500 bags.

Additionally, students will be creating special handmade cards for these bags during their Valentine’s day parties on February 12th.

Grade level food collections:

Kindergarten - Individual packs of oatmeal

First Grade - Peanut butter crackers packs

Second Grade - Juice boxes

Third Grade - Granola bars

Fourth & 5th Grade - Fruit Cups (no foil tops)

**All items need to be store bought. No homemade items please**

Please drop off donations to the schools vestibule or send in with your child on their Hybrid day.

Please sign up for donations here.
