This anthology I am a cat from Soseki in the Japanese literature reveals the importance and the necessity to have sometimes cat's perspective on our crazy world. Cats have been significant in Japanese culture from Hello Kitty to the maneki-neko, from A Cat, A Man, and Two Women written by Jun'ichiro Tanizaki to The cat returns from Ghibli Studio, from Chiro, Nobuyoshi Araki's cat to Sasuke, Masahisa Fukase's cat, cats are omnipresent. Visiting Japan, I could notice cats everywhere in streets but also in bars or restaurants next to the tanuki. 夏目漱石のこの小説「吾輩は猫である」の中では、この狂気に満ちた世界において、時に猫の目線を持つことの重要さと必然性が語られています。日本文化の中で、猫は常に重要な位置を占めてきました。ハローキティーを始め、招き猫から谷崎潤一郎の「猫と庄造と二人のおんな」、スタジオジブリの「猫の恩返し」、荒木経惟の猫「チロ」、深瀬昌久の猫に至るまで、猫は至るところに存在します。私が日本を訪れた時も、猫は路上のあらゆるところや、飲み屋さんやレストランでたぬきの置物と並んで見られました。
I would like to invite today's Japanese photographers to participate to a photography project on the thematic of cats. This is an open call to create an exhibition and photography book project together. I wish this project to be a new opportunity for Japanese photographers to promote their works around Europe and express the important place of Japanese photography in worldwide photography expression. I wish this Neko project to be professional but also a time of friendship and love between our both culture, western and and eastern. 現代の日本の写真家の皆さんに、猫をテーマにした写真プロジェクトに是非参加して頂きたいと思います。写真展の開催、及び写真集の制作を目的とした公募です。このプロジェクトが日本の写真家の皆さんにとって、ヨーロッパで作品を発表し、世界レベルの写真表現の中での日本の写真の重要性を表明する新しい機会となることを願っています。さらに、猫プロジェクトがプロフェッショナルな面のみだけでなく、西と東の二つの文化の間の愛と友好の時となることをも望んでいます。
My objective is to propose this Neko project in Europe to galleries, institutions and museums and to get a publication from it with direct profits back to photographers. No costs to apply and participate. The final choice for the project will be the choice of a jury. I have already the commitment of two galleries in France and Belgium to present the exhibition in their space with this Neko project by end of 2018: Ibasho Gallery/Antwerp and Galerie Argentic/Paris, plus one publisher specialized in photography, iKi editions for a book in 2019 at latest. I keep the road to get other commitments for exhibitions or other photography events. It is important to understand that the applicants will always be free to validate their participation when new opportunities will be added. 私の目標は、この猫プロジェクトをヨーロッパのギャラリーや、文化施設、美術館に提案し、写真集を出版することです。出版に際しての費用の負担はありません。プロジェクトへの応募と参加は無料です。プロジェクトの最終的な選択は審査員によって行われます。フランスとベルギーの二つのギャラリーが、2018年の終わりまでに行われる猫プロジェクトの展覧会のためのスペースの提供をすでに約束して下さっています。展覧会場として、アントワープの居場所/IBASHOギャラリーとパリのGalerie Argentic、さらに写真専門の出版社、iKi editionsが2019年には写真集を出版する予定です。今後も展覧会や写真イベントの可能性を探し続けます。新しい展示等の機会が加わった場合、応募者は参加するかどうかをその都度自由に選ぶことができます。

Based in Paris, Sophie CAVALIERO is both a consultant in Human Resources (HR) Management and author on her passion - art. Her first book NOUVELLE GARDE, released in October 2011 by the publisher Le Lézard Noir was the result of two years of research especially while looking for new art works for her collection of Japanese contemporary art. This book is now a reference in France if you wish to know more about the Japanese contemporary art. RÉVÉLATIONS, her second book released in September 2013 by the same publishers, is a follow-up of her researches, but this time focused on Japanese contemporary photography. Her partnership with Valérie Douniaux has been follow-up with a third book released in August 2016, C on contemporary Japanese ceramics. She is also an art and photography collector and a cat lover.
