COLORADO ELEMENTARY

Students in Ms. Phillips' Kindergarten class had a special visitor, Mr. Walt, one of MCSD's tech support staff!

Students in Mrs. Hines' kindergarten class at Colorado Elementary shared their family trees today. We learned about families in our ELA unit last week. We learned that all families are different, but they are all special!

Students at Colorado School enjoyed their first Library Book Tasting. Students got a taste of several different kinds of books such as picture books, wordless books, nonfiction books, poetry books and autobiographies. Students had a few minutes to sample the books and then they recorded their thoughts. After the tasting students got to share the great new books they explored with their classmates.

Fun fall projects are happening in Mrs. Holder's art classes at Colorado! 🍁🍂🌳

Students at Colorado School participated in a Library Scavenger Hunt. They learned how to use the Destiny Discover online catalog to located the call number (address) of several books. Then students used the call number to find different kinds of books on the shelves.

Mrs. Noll's 2nd grade at Colorado celebrated great choices at school with lunch in the classroom, followed by a special treat... ice cream pizza!

Homecoming Fun at Colorado! Colorado staff celebrated Western Day, and Colorado 5th graders helped build this year's float for the Homecoming Parade. Colorado represented Homer, Alaska "The Last Frontier."

FRANKLIN ELEMENTARY

Mrs. Polukonda's Kindergartener SHINE winners cashed in their winnings to be Frankie's Helper!

Fifth graders in Ms. Weeks' class at Franklin went on a field trip to the sand mound on Wednesday. Students were able to catch aquatic animals with nets, learn about monarch butterflies, and meet some animals that live on the sand mound prairie.

Muskie Poms visited the students at Franklin as part of Homecoming Week!

GRANT ELEMENTARY

Miss Dindinger’s begindergarten class participated in spirit week by supporting their favorite teams on Thursday and wearing Muskie attire/colors on Friday. Go Muskies!

Mrs. Paul’s 4th graders and Mrs. Cantrell’s Kindergarteners teamed up for some get to know you fun!

Grant School has been in full swing in celebration of Homecoming! Last Friday we kicked off our celebrations with a Tailgate Party! Over 350 Grant students and their families attended! We celebrated the week with spirit days, visits from the Homecoming Court and Pom Girls and the parade. What a great week it's been!

Mrs. Dusenberry's 1st graders and Mrs.Doane's 4th graders are synergizing! The 4th graders get to visit Mrs. Dusenberry's class as an incentive when they get their work done! They are then 4th grade teachers in supporting our first grade students! The first graders think they are rockstars too!

Mrs. Kulland's Physical Education classes were busy this week! First grade helped each other out while playing Sharks & Lifeguards with the parachute; third grade played Captain Hook to work on running, push ups, and sit ups for fitness testing prep. Rocco our school therapy dog decided to come join in too; and, fourth grade was joined by Mrs. Freers and Mrs. Strouf while playing Continuous Exercise Dodgeball to incorporate our fitness testing prep of push ups and sit ups.

JEFFERSON ELEMENTARY

Jefferson students participate in Super Start every morning by dancing and singing along to a music video. Today, they had special guests participate - the newly crowned MHS Homecoming King and Queen!

The Mighty Muskie Marching Band performed at Jefferson today as part of Homecoming 2018!

MADISON ELEMENTARY

Madison kindergarteners in Mrs. Holder's art classes learned about lines and how to use paint correctly!

Student leaders at Madison started learning more about our new library Makerspace. A Makerspace is a place where people gather to explore, build, create, collaborate and innovate. Makerspaces motivate students to learn new skills through trial and error, experience failure of an initial idea, explore possible alternatives and problem solving to improve on the idea. Students can discover their hidden talents and passions by engaging in meaningful exploration with materials such as crafting supplies, LEGOs, blocks, robots, circuit boards, and other resources. Thanks to several donations and grants our Madison Makerspace is up and running!

It was a busy Homecoming Week at Madison with lots of fun guests and activities!

Third, fourth and fifth graders at Madison School participated in a scavenger hunt using the online library catalog. Students collaborated in groups to to locate different types of books on Destiny Discover. They recorded the call number, title and author. Mrs. Poppe's 5th grade class worked on sequence of events this week in reading class. One activity they did was sequence important events in Mrs. Poppe's life and make a timeline of her life! Here is the finished product!

MCKINLEY ELEMENTARY

Students in Mrs. DeVrieze's 4th grade class got to celebrate having 10 days in a row of PERFECT attendance this week! Congratulations! They also continued yoga lessons!

MULBERRY ELEMENTARY

Homecoming 2018

Mulberry staff got into the Homecoming Spirit this week and participated in Western Day and Crazy Hair Day!

Mulberry students had a special Homecoming Visit from the Muskie Pom Girls!

As part of Homecoming Week, the Mighty Muskie Marching Band visited Mulberry today, and brought lots of energy and music to the morning announcements.

Mrs. Gabriel's and Ms. Hampton's classes had a wet but successful field trip to Camp Courageous!

CENTRAL MIDDLE SCHOOL

Principal Spies and counselor Mr. Kulland got into the spirit #HOCO2018 on Western Day! Go Muskies!

Mrs. Arnold's 7th grade science students planned and carried out investigations about static potential energy. Stemscope curriculum in action!

Students in Mrs. Larson-Walgren's social studies and ELA classes have been busy this week working on a variety of skills and concepts. Students were caught on camera playing a board game to learn how to correctly fill out a check register, practicing how to utilize context clues to decipher unknown words using the online site Learning Farm, and writing strong dialogue to enhance a story.

WEST MIDDLE SCHOOL

Algebra 1 students in Mrs. Anson's class used the "Give One Get One" strategy to review their vocabulary words.

Miss Wiebe's sixth grade Ag classes at West got a chance to learn about chicken production and the purpose of raising poultry. At the end of the lesson they got to explore hands on with baby chicks!

Miss Wiebes seventh grade West Ag classes have been busy at the Ag Center learning the safe and humane ways to move pigs, taking weights to collect data on baby chicks, and learning about producing and harvesting sweet corn.

MUSCATINE HIGH SCHOOL

This week, M4 (Mighty Muskie Marking Band) performed at Allsteel for one of their customers/clients.

FFA

Still wanting some good ole' Iowa sweet corn? FFA members picked sweet corn after school at Ag Center this week. Place your order with any of the Ag teachers!

The Muscatine FFA had a good turnout for the homecoming parade! The float was pulled by the tractor that FFA member Andrew VanNice restored to working condition.

This week students in Mr. Hennes and Mrs. Clark's Physics classes explored motion maps, position-time graphs, and velocity equations. To expand on students' knowledge of these topics, students made balloon rockets and whirly-gigs.
