The Pirates are ready for opening day with many familiar faces as Head Coach Angela Froboese returns four top hitters from last season. Included in that group is...
...junior outfielder Taylor Curtis. Curtis was SU's most decorated athlete last season, earning All-SCAC First Team and NFCA All-Region Third Team honors after leading the Pirates at the plate with a .381 batting average.
Fellow All-SCAC First Team selection at second base, senior Berkeley Bacon was second on the team with a .362 batting average and was second in doubles with 11 behind Curtis.
Sophomore Celeste Silvas earned an All-SCAC Honorable Mention selection after an outstanding freshman campaign where she posted a .351 batting average and led the team with 16 stolen bases.
Two-time All-SCAC selection (2nd team - 2016, 1st team - 2015) senior Marissa Irvin rounds out the top hitters returning. With a .347 batting average, Irvin was second on the team in stolen bases (10) and fourth in runs scored (24).
Southwestern also returns pitchers Isabella Robb and Chandler Smith that showed glimpses of excellence last season. The duo combined for five shutouts last year.
Southwestern opens the season on February 4th against Mary Hardin-Baylor to kick off a ten-game home stand to start the year.
