National Nutrition Month

Food insecurity is not having access to enough healthy food to maintain an active lifestyle. It was a problem in our community even before the pandemic and has grown bigger. Every day, 1 in 7 people are hungry in Benton & Franklin Counties, including 1 in 4 children. March is National Nutrition Month, so we joined 2nd Harvest during one of their mobile food market distribution events to talk about the importance of healthy eating and their Feeding Children Initiative.

2nd Harvest’s mobile food markets are contactless and open to anyone in need. They are typically held on Wednesdays at rotating locations throughout the Tri-Cities. Visit the 2nd Harvest website for the complete schedule.

Entering Phase 3 – safely!

Since summer, we facilitated distribution more than a half million pieces of personal protective equipment to more than 50 local nonprofit organizations. That includes 252,000 disposable gloves in March, which is especially timely as the recent statewide move into Phase 3 means many agencies are beginning to provide in-person services again. We are pleased to be able to reduce expenses for nonprofits as they safely expand critical services.

40% of the people who have visited a local food bank in the last year were seeking help for the first time.
