Revolutions in Technology By jackson bunkley

A revolution in farming methods led to a sharp increase in the population, and many people moving from the country to the city looking for work.
Meanwhile, we were just beginning to discover the secrets of coal power and iron production.
And Britain had plenty of money to invest in new businesses and technology.
As population continued to increase, demand for goods grew, and suppliers needed to find ways to produce more and more.

Technological Developments

New machines used to spin and weave cloth were housed in factories that allowed the workers to produce goods at a much higher rate than before.

A new understanding of coal power helped inventors create the steam engine and a new type of iron that was cheap and dependable.

Steam power and iron became the basis of the machines of the industrial revolution.

Steam power and iron were used to create the first railroad, which helped people and products get from place to place much faster. Canals, steamboats, and turnpikes also added to the transportation network.

Positive and Negative Effects on SociEtY

"...we cannot even maintain our freedom and independence without the big factory and all it represents." - Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru of India

The industrial revolution had lots of positive effects on society. There were lots of new jobs created and goods became more affordable to more people. People also started living longer and could travel around from place to place much easier.

There were also many negative effects. Child labor was widespread and accidents in factories was common. Cities became overcrowded and sanitation was horrible.

There isn't a clear date as to when the digital revolution began, but something that definately helped was the liberalisation of telecomunication companies, expanding the capabilities of phones.
Another thing that laid the foundation for the digital revolution is the rollout of broadband access, allowing people to access the internet almost anywhere.
Cheaper mobile phones aided the rise of the digital revolution by granting access to cellular phones to more and more people worldwide.
Yet another thing that led to the digital revolution was the rise of social media, which could advertise anything and allow people to express their opinions.

Technological Developments

Many companies spawned out of the digital revolution, each one having a specialty. Apple is a company that specializes in cell phones, YouTube specializes in letting people put videos onto the internet, and Twitter is a social media platform with millions upon millions of regular users.

The internet was also born in the digital revolution, providing an almost unlimited supply of things that you can use in your day to day life.

Google, a company with the most used search engine that helps people find anything on the internet.
Skype, a company that specializes in communication over the internet instead of telecommunication networks.

The computer is one of the biggest and most important things to come from the digital revolution. Computers can be used for calculations, engineering, art, architecture, gaming, social media, and many other things.

Intel i7 core processor, the central processor in a computer that handles calculations.
Autodesk, a computer program that is heavily used by engineers to make different designs to pass on to the manufacturer.

Positive and negative effects on society

"Because of the rush of human knowledge, because of the digital revolution, I have a voice, and I do not need to scream." - Roger Ebert

The digital revolution has brought many positive side affects. It has allowed people to shop online instead of going out to the store, as well as talk to people from almost anywhere at any time. Also, due to the large amount of technological advancements, our understanding of science and the universe has been propelled forward exponentially. Our knowledge of robotics has also been increased by quite a lot due to new technologies and research.

Despite all that has been said this far, however, there are still downsides to this revolution in digital technology. Many countries are seeing success in many different ways, but a lot of other countries have been left in the dust and have extreme poverty and other significant issues. On top of this, the creation of social media has given people a platform to heckle and harass other people for having a differing opinion. Social media also makes it extremely easy to spread propaganda as the majority of people in every country with technology use social media every day. While technology is a wonderful tool that many people have access to, society as a whole has become so reliant on it that they can't function without it.

Future: Space Travel and Exploration

Scientists at NASA have been researching autonomous space travel, which could make travel in to deep parts of space much easier.
NASA is also looking into reusable space vehicles, which would cut costs on space travel considerably.
People are very curious about what could be in the deeper parts of space, and this curiosity could drive the inventions of new technologies for space travel.
Resources on Earth are limited, and we are running out of them rather quickly. An incentive to explore space would be to gather more resources.

Technological Developments

A new technology that could come from this revolution is advanced artificial intelligence, which would be used to pilot deep space vehicles and would be able to make independent desicions in the case of an emergency.

Different types of AI would have different purposes

Reusable space craft would save us a lot of money and resources and could be used to go to different solar systems. This is currently being researched by NASA and could be ready for use within a decade.

If we found alien life, we could attempt to trade knowledge and receive advanced technologies that we are not even close to replicating on earth.

Positive and negative effects on society

"The time was fast approaching when Earth, like all mothers, must say farewell to her children." - Arthur C. Clarke

Here are some possible upsides to the space travel and exploration revolution. We would find new resources that we are running out of on earth. We could colonize another planet in a different solar system. We could vastly increase our knowledge of space and what lies past our solar system. We could also meet friendly alien life and set up trade to get new technologies and knowledge.

With most upsides comes a downside, however. If we met alien life that was significantly more advanced than us, they could easily invade our planet and exterminate us. Building space craft would cost quite a lot of money, and we could go bankrupt. Just about anything can go wrong in space, and when something goes wrong, it is catastrophic, meaning a lot of people could die exploring the cosmos. If we started relying on advanced intelligences to pilot space craft, they could realize that they are better than humans and try to take control.
