Tech Tip Thursday December 8, 2016

First of all, if you are not already using Discovery Education (DE) on a regular basis in your classroom, I would HIGHLY encourage you to give it a try. It is an invaluable resource and something that every teacher in Region 3 has access to for FREE! Users can search by specific TEKS or topic and find different types of media (videos, sound clips, songs, articles, images, etc.) related to the search!

As a teacher, the most frustrating part about streaming a movie in class is BUFFERING! If the school's network is running slow, or if there is not enough bandwidth, the result is the dreaded spinning circle...

Don't worry - DE has your back! You can DOWNLOAD many of the videos in their library! Then, you can play them whenever you want, even if there is NO INTERNET CONNECTION!

Here's how to do it:

Search for the media you would like to download.

Once you've logged in to DE, you can search one or two ways - by topic or by specific TEKS.

If you search by TEKS (Curriculum Standards Search), fill in all of the correct boxes for your specific content area and grade level.

Narrow down your results.

Once your results appear, you can narrow them down to grade level appropriateness and the specific type of media you are looking for.

Click on the link of the video that you would like to download.

Download the video.

Download the video directly to your device so that you can watch it whenever and wherever you want WITHOUT internet access!

Click the Download button.

Hint: Check out the Teacher's Guide for lesson plan ideas and activities to go along with the video!

Select the file quality. If you have a slow internet connection, download the Low quality.

Save the video to your device and YOU'RE DONE!

Whenever you are ready to watch the video, just open it on your device and hit play - NO INTERNET REQUIRED!

Do you need information about your username and password for Discovery Education?
