Hunter S. Thompson was a very talented man, He began his journalism career after high school. He had a very different style than other journalists, later known as "Gonzo Journalism". Gonzo Journalism is a style of journalism that is written without claims of objects, often including the reporter as part of the story from first-person narrative.
Thompson was found on the wrong side of the law and has been arrested several times. The judge thought that they would give him a choice between prison or military, hoping it would change him, he chose to join the United States Air Force. He received an early discharge and his career finally set off.
Even though Thompson's actions cost him his job he continued working for small town newspapers, and sending his stuff to Time magazine. He was a fearless journalist with a voice. His bohemian credentials earned him an assignment to write an article for the Nation about the Hells Angels Motorcycle club.
