Olympic Trials Begin with 2019 Laser World Championships

On Thursday, July 4, U.S. Laser sailors will head to Sakaiminato City, Japan for the 2019 Laser World Championships. This event marks the beginning of the 2020 Olympic Trails for the US Sailing Team athletes.

Athletes will qualify for the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 in one of three phases, Early, Middle, or Late Selection. Under this system, athlete selection may occur as early as August of this year, or as late as Spring of 2020. Whether athletes are named to the team this summer, or early next year, their results at the 2019 World Championships will decide who will be representing Team USA in Tokyo.

US Sailing Olympic Development Program Athletes Go Behind the Scenes at New York SailGP

Last week, the next generation of Olympic hopefuls got an all-access look at another type of high-performance racing. US Sailing’s Olympic Development (ODP) athletes took a break from training at Oakcliff to visit SailGP before the New York event. The sailors met with US SailGP coach, Tom Burnham, and helmsman, Rome Kirby, for an inspirational Q&A session. Following a tour of the technical area and a behind the scenes look at the F50s, the athletes hit the water for an up close look at some practice races.

Without the contributions and donations from our generous US Sailing Team supporters, the US Sailing Team athletes wouldn't have access to the wealth of resources that support their success. Thank you for your continued support!
