Extended Services Program Philosophy: We believe the purpose of the Extended Services Program is to support children with a unique profile of strengths, talents, and/or abilities whose needs exceed the core curriculum.
Fall Highlights

Extended Services meets the needs of 831 students in grades 3-8 (including 9th grade math) in District 220.

Through the Extended Fall Review Identification Process, new placements were made: 19 elementary and 10 middle school placements. "Welcome!"

Fall Updates, 2018

We are in the fourth year of our Extended Services Five-Year Action Plan. This year the Extended Service educators' primary focus is on curriculum revisions. Curriculum work never takes place in one year, however. As a district, curriculum revisions occur in cycles every 6-8 years. The process of curriculum redesign is an arduous one which emphasizes these four basic ideals:

This year, the Extended Services Team will complete the development of the extended 8th grade math course, while we continue to research and plan for the elementary reading experience. Implementation of extended 8th grade science is taking place this school year, with an emphasis on the engineering standards and multiple in-depth lab experiences. Below is an overview of the ongoing curriculum work the team has invested in:

  • Annual Extended Services Program Overview: Information Night for Parents of Students New to the Program. November 28, 6:30-7:30 p.m., at Station M.S. Library. Target Audience: Parents of new students to the program (this is annual information- session).
  • Science Night & Guest Speakers (Dr. Harris, Superintendent & Dr. Jordan, Director of Extended Programs & Staff Professional Development), hosted by BCGT. Tuesday, January 29, 2019. 7:00-8:00 p.m. at Prairie Middle School Campus, Library Media Center (TENTATIVE LOCATION). Audience: Students (science) & Parents (speakers). Description: Please join us for a fun night of science exploration for students! Dr. Harris and Dr. Jordan will offer a session for parents regarding the district's profile and successes of the Extended Services Program.
