Cory W. Gudger Selma Burke Middle School Band Director

I have been a Band Director in the Mooresville Graded School District for 9 years, and I'm going into year 10 of teaching! Throughout my nine years teaching I have taught many fantastic students and continued to learn over the years how to better approach teaching and coaching students. While teaching at Mooresville, I have taken ensembles to Music Performance Adjudication several times with Superior Ratings, the Music in the Parks performances at Carowinds, and plan to take this program even further in the coming years!

At Selma Burke Middle School, my teaching responsibilities are solely in the band room. I teach the 6th Grade Music Course, 7th Grade Beginning Band, and the 8th Grade Band. I am proud to say that I had a long history at Mooresville Middle School of excellence in their band program, on an ensemble level and individual level and I am looking forward to starting new traditions of excellence at Selma Burke. Our goal in the Selma Burke MS Program is to have fun while creating meaningful relationships both to music and each other to create a family. Through two years in the SBMS Program, your student (should they wish) will be more than prepared to join the fantastic program at Mooresville High School, and the Pride in Motion Marching Band!

I also have the privilege of being the Visual Program Coordinator and Assistant Director with the Pride In Motion Marching Band at Mooresville High School, one of the best marching band programs in North Carolina (Bands of America Regional Finalist in 2019 & 2021!!)! In 2020, I was fortunate enough to be awarded the Young Director of Excellence Award for the entire South Central District of bands, which encompasses all of the Charlotte area (Monroe to Gastonia, and Charlotte through Mooresville).

Charley

I currently live in Davidson, North Carolina. I have one roommate who also work for the Mooresville High School Pride In Motion Marching Band. I do not currently have children of my own, but I have two fur-children in my dogs, Charley and Cooper! When not teaching, you can typically find me on a disc golf course in the area.

Cooper

I am a proud graduate of Appalachian State University (go Mountaineers!), where I graduated with honors. I studied Instrumental Music Education and Horn Performance. I'm a proud Mountaineer always looking to continue learning. I'm currently exploring options to earn my Masters in Music Education and National Board Certification.
