On September 11th 2003, Over Three Thousand People died. And about 2,600 of those people died in or around the Twin Towers.

Thousands came from all over the country to help as much as they could. NYC actually had to turn away volunteers that came to rescue the endangered.

An event of courage that not many people know of is the "boat lift."

While many people forgot that Manhattan was an island, others hoped on their boats and evacuated as many people as possible. Over five hundred thousand people were rescued from Manhattan's seawalls in just nine hours. Not a single person was injured in the process of what became known as “the Boat lift.”

From rubble to remembrance the World Trade Center had turned into a memorial for everyone who died on that horrific day.

Our country wasn't as safe as it is today, it was rare to go through multiple metal detectors in an airport. There also wasn't security cameras every corner you turn on. Considering the amount of impact this event has had on our country, the World Trade Center's have now turned into a memorial for the people who fought for their lives.

We are very lucky today to not have had to handle such a situation. We are lucky to live in "the land of the free, and the home of the brave"
