THE RISE CHURCH

MEET OUR PASTORS

Our lead pastors, Michael and Erica Yardley, have a heart for the greater RVA area and desire to see the lives of people in our city transformed by the life-giving message of Jesus. Michael is a gifted communicator who relates the candid life experiences of his journeys to those he has the privilege of interacting in doing life with, offering a relevant picture of hope for a life transformed through his engaging sharing of God's truth. He has had opportunities to engage with audiences from all walks of life, in and from multiple countries, to conferences, camps, and churches and every day connections made at the local coffeehouses. Michael earned his undergraduate degree from Liberty University in Religion and pursued graduate work in Ministerial Leadership at Southeastern University. He is also ordained through the Assemblies of God, a network of pastors ministering to over 70 million people across the globe.

.

Erica has been involved in ministry for nearly two decades, having served as a youth pastor as well as in various ministry roles at the collegiate level prior to marrying Michael. She has spoken at conferences, camps, seminars, and Bible studies, as well as engaged in cross-cultural missions. Erica earned her undergraduate degree in Psychology and Youth Ministry from Liberty University, then went on to complete her Master's Degree of Education in School Counseling at The College of William and Mary. After obtaining counseling experience at the elementary, middle, and high school levels, she went on to teach middle and high school at a private Christian college preparatory school, while serving alongside of Michael in youth and family ministry. Having received her promotion to motherhood, Erica enjoys her current season as a stay-at-home mom of three, pastor, and owner of a photography business.

.

Beyond any of their achievements, they want to be known as people who love God and love people.

WHY ANOTHER CHURCH?

The Numbers

Statistically, church plants grow 12 times faster than established churches. They also grow with 60-80% of its membership coming from unchurched or dechurched families. That means they are typically not just getting people from down the street. The beauty behind the statistics is that every number has a name, every name has a story, and every story matter so much the Christ died for them.

Biblical Mandate

Throughout the New Testament there's a pattern of church replication. New churches were constantly being planted and that model has not stopped. Just look at the life of Paul and you'll get a visual of one of many early church planters. You can see it play out over the14 churches he personally planted. There is a good change you have heard of a few of them, they are books in your Bible: The Church of Corinth (1 & 2 Corinthians), Galatia (Galatians), Ephesus (Ephesians), Philippi (Philippians), Colossi (Colossians), Thessaloniki (1 & 2 Thessalonians).

Did you know that sending churches on average see a 21.5% increase in attendance for the next five years from the time of the church plant?
WHY RVA?

The only city in America with white water rapids running through it's downtown district. Richmond is a major financial center with banks like Capital One Financial and Sun Trust Banks calling it home. Richmond is also the seat of Virginia's state government. The end, with a wide range of housing options and a below average cost of living, the Richmond metro area – which includes suburban areas in the counties of Chesterfield, Hanover and Henrico – appeals to a very demographic, from young families to retirees. It's no wonder it is ranked as one of America's best places to live.

Michael and Erica met with several influential pastors and other strategic leaders in the city. They outlined 6 potentials plant locations and spent several days driving and praying through each area. It became apparent the more they prayed that Glen Allen would become home for The Rise Church

CONNECTIONS
9 Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. 10 For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up! 11 Again, if two lie together, they keep warm, but how can one keep warm alone? 12 And though a man might prevail against one who is alone, two will withstand him—a threefold cord is not quickly broken. - Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 (ESV)

We understand and value the strategic partners we have in this journey. Here are a few groups that have come along side of us.
