Contextual Camouflage ERASING THE STIGMA AROUND MENTAL ILLNESS

The Challenge

A web app that uses geographic information systems (GIS) to gather mental health data anonymously based on user input and present it in real time via a heat map as well as present current research to users.

The app will coincide with a public installation of the heat map projected at target location(s).

The mind behind CONTEXTUAL CAMOUFLAGE is Jason Lane McKoy of McKoy Creative.

McKoy Creative uses art, design, and multimedia to help increase outreach, engage communities, and deliver unique products & services.

Who We Are Reaching

To best convey who has the potential to benefit from this app, we put together 6 personas and demonstrated what their frustrations are and what they have to gain by sharing their stories.

SURVEYING THE LAND

We felt it important to get out there and talk to the people.

We spoke to 137 people and our results were incredible.

Sketches and Wireframes

Then it was time to define the framework of the site and how users would interact with it.

Our UX team started by putting together some Lo-Res Wireframes.

Those Lo Res images were fleshed out in Hi-Res utilizing the fonts and color schemes that were selected.

HOW IT WORKS

  • The locality is chosen
  • The art installation goes up for the public for 7 days
  • Local users are prompted to a mobile responsive site and anonymously enter data
  • Unique answers are geolocated and the map is updated
  • Data transferred to McKoy Creative and Medical Researchers

TECHNOLOGY THAT BRINGS US TOGETHER

The Technologies used to bring CONTEXTUAL CAMOUFLAGE to life are all open source.
