A warm welcome back and I hope very much that you had a good summer break. It has been great to see so many smiling faces arriving at the school gates each morning this week. A huge well done to the children in reception class who have completed their first week at primary school too! We are delighted to welcome Mr Prosser (teacher in Badgers & KS2 leader), Miss Collyer (teacher in Pine Martens), Mrs Haines (SENCO) and Mrs Taylor (TA in Foxes) to Monkton Park. Miss Dawson also joins Hedgehog class in Terms 1, 2, 5 & 6 to complete a teaching placement.
Over the summer we were able to make a number of key improvements to the school. As many of you will have seen, we have replaced some of the old wooden fencing on the infant playground and added fencing across the KS2 playground. Foxes, Pinemartens and the adjoining cloakroom and quiet room have also been refurbished and we are delighted with the results. We hope to continue the refurbishment programme over the next couple of years so that we can ensure every classroom provides a calm, modern environment for the children to learn in.
We are delighted to see so many children coming in with healthy snacks. Change 4 Life (NHS) advises that fruit and vegetables are always the best choice, but if you're shopping for packaged snacks for your children, use this helpful tip: look for 100 calorie snacks, two a day max! Chocolate and crisps are not allowed as a playtime snack. We encourage all children to drink water during the school day and squash is not allowed in class or at playtime.
Weekly Achievement Awards
Achievement certificates are awarded to one child per class every week in our celebration assembly.
Congratulation in week 1 to: Hannah, Archie, Beau, Aria, Ava, Leo, Riley and Huxley
Hot Chocolate Friday
We were delighted to continue our hot chocolate Friday this week. Teachers chose one child from each class who has gone over and above during week in helping others. The selected children then have a hot chocolate with Mr Rafferty and Mrs Douglas! This weeks achievers (with hot chocolate all round their mouths) are: Ray, Tyler, Alfie, Jake, Isabelle, Dixie and Theo.

T-Trak is a modular model railway system, where individual modules link together to make a bigger layout. We use our N Gauge models to learn about what engineers do on the full-size railway, using our STEM skills to design and build a miniature version. This term we will be improving and maintaining our modules ready for the Christmas Fair. You can see examples of what we’ve built so far on our website at http://ttrak.wikidot.com/monkton-park-primary-school-t-trak-club.
We are Friends with the Sechrist Elementary School T-Trak Club in Arizona. Please say if you’re interested in having a pen-pal when you sign up for T-Trak Club.

Annual General Meeting Wednesday 11th September at 6.30 - All welcome
We will be holding the FOMPS Annual General Meeting (AGM) at 6:30 in the school Hall on 11th September. Please come along to help plan for 2019/20, to vote in a new committee, and to tell us where your skills and interests will benefit our fundraising.
Good news!: we raised over £8000 in 2019; The consequence of raising so much?: we now need to register FOMPS as a charity, so we have a few more obligations in addition to those of previous years.
In short, FOMPS will need to appoint a management committee (eg. Chair, Treasurer, Secretary) and a number of additional trustees. The trustees will have a duty to ensure FOMPS carries out its purposes as set out in our constitution, and will work alongside the management committee to make the key decisions.
As it will be important for us to ensure that we have a good representation of parents, guardians and/or teachers as trustees, the current committee would like to invite anyone who is interested, to email FOMPSPTA@gmail.com in advance of the AGM for further information. You can either nominate yourself for a particular management committee role or for a position as trustee in advance by email or in person at the AGM on 11th September when voting will take place.
