YOUTH COMMITTEE

In line with Council’s Strategic Goal of Sustainable Infrastructure and Quality of Life, the Youth Committee will be promoting recycling as one of its objective this year. To learn what happens to the recyclable material after they are collected from our homes, the committee toured the City’s waste collection provider’s (i.e., Athens Services) Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) in Sun Valley. The members learned about the type of recyclable material (i.e., different types of plastic: Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET), High Density Polyethylene (HDPE), Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE), etc.) and how they are sorted for recycling.

To further this objective, the committee will post informational/educational messages regarding recycling on the digital billboard on Rosemead Blvd from October to December. The objective will end with a Q & A video regarding recycling in April/May.

The Youth Committee’s meetings are on the fourth Thursday of the month. For more information regarding the Youth Committee, please visit the City’s website, CLICK HERE, or email the City Clerk’s office at cityclerk@templecity.us.

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DEVELOPMENT

BULKY ITEMS TRASH PICK-UPS

Over the last two weeks the community has seen a significant increase in the number of bulky items being left on the street. While Athens provides unlimited bulky item trash pick-up, residents must request this service. This is because the new, automated trash trucks cannot dispose of bulky items and non-automated trash truck must be dispatched. Bulky items left on the street will not be picked up, unless a pickup is scheduled. Bulky item pick-ups can be scheduled online, PLEASE CLICK HERE

ADDITIONAL RENT RELIEF AVAILABLE

While the City successfully processed all its rent relief applications, there is still funding available under the State of California’s COVID-19 Rent Relief Program. The program covers 100 percent of unpaid or upcoming rent and utilities. Landlords and renters are eligible to apply if they have been impacted by COVID-19. Forty-seven households in Temple City have been assisted as of August 31, 2021, with an average assistance of $11,956 per household, and a total assistance of $561,936. If you or someone you know is in need of rental assistance, PLEASE CLICK HERE
