Bowdoin cross country 2019 season preview

The Polar Bear cross country teams will get their 2019 season underway this weekend as they host the Bowdoin Invitational at the Pickard Field Cross Country Course.

2018 Recap

Both squads had successful campaigns, finishing in the top-ten at the New England Division III Regional they hosted in November. The men’s squad, led by All-American Sean McDonald, captured first-place finishes at the Maine State Invitational and Bowdoin Invitational and ended sixth at the NESCAC Championship. The women’s squad, paced by NCAA qualifiers Julia O’Rourke and Delaney Bullock, won the Bowdoin Invite and placed seventh at NESCAC’s. At the NCAA New England Regional, the Polar Bear men took seventh while the women placed ninth.

The Polar Bears return Delaney Bullock, who garnered All-American honors as part of Bowdoin’s distance medley relay team at the NCAA Indoor Championship on the heels of her first trip to Cross Country nationals last November.

Seniors Maggie Hanson and Anne McKee, both of whom have been top-three runners in their careers, will also return this fall to help provide depth to the squad. Anna Barnes, Sadie Saxton and Kate Toll will captain the Polar Bears this season.

Junior Aidan King showed impressive progress through the 2018-19 season in both cross country and track and will look to rise in the lineup along with sophomore Andrew Meredith, who was a top-seven runner on last year’s squad.
