Amelia Earhart was born in Atchison, KS on July 24, 1897. She spent most of her time at her grandparents house during her childhood. When she was ten she saw her first plane at a state fair. She had a sister named pidge they would always play outside unlike most girls back then. When she saw her first plane she wasn't impressed. About 10 years later she went to an air show and thats when she realized that's what she wanted to do fly planes.
Amelia Earhart got her first flying lesson on January 3, 1921. It took her 6 months to save up enough money to buy her first plane. She named the plane "The Canary". She broke the record for flying the highest altitude for a woman. She flew at an altitude of 14,000 feet. In April of 1928 she got an offer to fly across the Atlantic Ocean her answer was an immediate yes. So she embarked on the trip it was a very dangerous thing to do and it was quite difficult to complete. There were three women who tried to complete this before her but all three died. She successfully crossed the Atlantic Ocean on May 21, 1932.
She later went on to try the hardest record and that was to be the first woman to travel around the world by plane. She was 40 when she began it she left Oakland California on May 20, 1937. Fred Noonan accompanied Amelia Earhart on her flight as a navigator. As the two headed out something went wrong. The plane crashed over the ocean. Amelia Earhart and Fred Noonan were never seen again. They just disappeared and no one ever found a trace of them or the plane. They have been presumed dead because of time and the accident. She never completed the trip.
