My name is Oliver Hartkopp and I'm 20 years old. I grew up on the north coast of Sealand. I moved to the west coast of Denmark to a town called Klitmøller when I was 16 years old to live in a area of Denmark with more consistent surf. This allowed me to train for and participate in more competitions in the area and throughout Scandinavia. However, it is not only the competition aspect of surfing that really excites me. The weather in Denmark is harsh and cold most of the year which means I spend most of my sessions in full winter gear. As I have grown up in cold and rough weather conditions that are constant changing, I have become fascinated of these cold corners and the mysterious they behold.

THE COLDWATER SCENE

Growing up as a surfer in Denmark was not very likely. I learned to surf on the waves from the passing ships in a small Fjord. Denmark is an atypical surfing country where waves are very fickle. As a surfer in Denmark you learn to appreciate "the worst" conditions as these are often wave producing conditions. Howling winds, snowstorms and little daylight are all factors. But I still come up with a smile on my face after every session, grateful to get in the water no matter the conditions - even though my body might not defrost for another few hours.
