Tattoos on the Heart Book Project By: sophie grabowski

Chapter 2 Dis-Grace: This chapter has my favorite character who is Lula. He always had such a positive attitude which was amazing to see coming from a book about gangs. I think Fr. Greg impacted Lula's life the most by teaching him things no one else would. Fr. Greg can get through to these people because he gains their trust. He wanted to have a deep talk with Sniper which is why he asked him for the name his mother called him when she wasn't mad.
Chapter 3 Compassion: Fr. Greg teaches us a great lesson in this chapter about what compassion really means. He tells us that we seek for a compassion that can stand in awe at what the poor have to carry rather than stand in judgment at how they carry it. In this chapter we learn about Anthony, a young man who changes so much over the course of time. Anthony has the dream of being a mechanic, so Fr. Greg takes him to meet Dennis the mechanic who teaches him tons of things resulting in success. "Compassion is not a relationship between the healer and the wounded. It's a covenant between equals."
Chapter 5 Slow Work: This is by far my favorite chapter based on the stories that are told and all the people that we meet. I like Joey's story as he changes his life and gets a job. He says "In two months, my son's gonna be born. I want him to come into the world and meet his father---a working man" This shows us that the homies weren't just terrible people thinking of crime and hate. They have families that they want to make proud and do good for.
