Some 4th and 1st graders had a chance to share ideas together already.

Moving through September has never seemed so quick. We seemed to just come back to school a moment ago, and now we are getting ready for October events. Where does the time go? The kids have been working hard in every grade level. That might mean some serious math for some, but for others that could be identifying letters and sounds.

We have some important events coming up in just a short period of time, the first of which is Curriculum Night. This event will feature presentations in the classrooms/pods for each grade level. This is a great chance to see your child's work, their cubby, and even their desk in some cases (which can be very telling). Please make sure to visit the specials teachers in their spaces too (Art, Tech, Music, and PE). The would love for you to look around and find out what sort of cool projects or lessons the students have been participating in. This year we will feature three 30-minute ‘sessions’ to allow parents/guardians with students in different grade levels the chance to hear about each child’s class. Please look over the attached schedule below. If you have any questions please reach out the administrative team.

Also coming up soon is our annual celebration called Ready, Set, GLOW! Even though shirt orders have now closed, there is nothing stopping you from registering for the event. Please click the button below to see the registration form. The event is on September 28th and will run from 6:30-8:00 PM.

Students from 3rd grade through 5th can sign up for our school band. On Thursday, Sept. 6th, students saw band instruments demonstrated but the flyer for how to rent them did not make it home! Please find the flyer by clicking the button below. You may also join band using an instrument you have from elsewhere. If you have questions, feel free to contact Chris Uminski, our band director. His email is cuminski@awrsd.org.

In addition to the band, students may also sign up for chorus in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades. This Thursday, Sept. 13th, will mark the first meeting of the year after school. Please contact Mrs. Lordan (mlordan@awrsd.org) with any chorus questions.

Please continue to let us know of any drop off or pick up issue you may come across. Mrs. Pilsbury is always looking for feedback throughout the year on that topic. You can reach her at bpilsbury@awrsd.org. In addition, please remember drop off is from 8:20- 8:30 AM.

This Friday, September 14th, we will be celebrating “International Dot Day” at school. Students are invited to wear or decorate their outfits with polka dots in a celebration of creativity, courage and collaboration. Students will also have designed and displayed their own “dot” at school as they begin to make their mark on this school year.

Calling all boys & girls in grades K-5,

The Cub Scouts of Pack 18 would like to invite you to join the best program in Ashburnham. Cub Scouts learn outdoors skills, play games, build crafts, learn teamwork and leadership skills, and help our community through service projects. Our first meeting is Tuesday, September 18 at 6:30pm. We meet at the American Legion, 132 Williams Road, near Briggs Elementary School. The first meeting will be an introduction to scouting for kids and their parents. You’ll also make a toy boat and race it in our Raingutter Regatta! Other exciting activities we have planned throughout the year include an overnight trip to the Museum of Science for scouts and their parents, hikes, visiting our town’s fire and police departments, and the always popular Pinewood Derby. If you’re interested in scouting, please come to our first meeting on Tuesday Sept. 18 to learn more about all the fun you can have in Cub Scout Pack 18.
