Newsletter 12th June 2020

Headteacher Comment

It has been lovely at school as more and more children have returned. There has definitely been a buzz about the place as Year 6, Year 1, Reception and Nursery have settled into their new groups and changed classrooms. They have talked about enjoying the online learning at home, but finding it sometimes lonely without their friends. If you would like your child to return to school (if they are in Years 6, 1, R or N), then please contact the office by Wednesday 17th June so they can start the following Monday (22nd).

During lockdown, Greenfields' teachers definitely haven't been 'on holiday' - they have all worked so hard to create interesting, engaging and individual lessons for their classes online on Google Classroom and Tapestry. They have also spent much of their days calling homes to make sure that families have the support they need to help learning carry on at home as much as possible. If you haven't received a call from your child's teacher, please check your phone. The teachers always leave voice messages and, because lots are calling from home not school, they might show as 'no number'. For the foreseeable future learning online and weekly phone calls will carry on for learners who have not yet returned to school. The school office is open from 8.30 - 4.00 every day, so if you would like to speak to your child's teacher, have difficulties accessing online learning or just to check in to say 'hi', please call the office on 01536 514622 or email: admin@greenfields-pri.co.uk

One of the highlights of the week for me is 'Celebration Assembly' - I recommend that you have a look at this week's: the quiz is to guess which teachers' pictures are in the background. There's a link to the quiz in each Google Classroom, so why not have a go? There's a weekly prize for the winning entry drawn out of the pink hat!

Take care and have a lovely weekend

Year one enjoyed making stick frames and pictures out of wild flowers, grass, leaves and many more pieces of nature!

Check out Year Two’s Bird Watching!

Come rain or shine, children from year two took to the outside to bird spot as part of their English topic on "The Jub Jub Bird". Children carried out excellent field research then later found out information about the birds they spotted. Look out… we might have the next Spring Watch presenter right here!!!

Celebration Assembly Competition Time

In the olden days when school was very different, our amazing Greenfields teachers awarded our students who achieved 100% attendance for the previous 5 days, and their names were entered into a hat for the Foody Friday Prize Draw. We cannot do this now that we are teaching from home. Did this stop the awesome team of dedicated Greenfields Staff? No it did not! The lovely Mrs Tyrrell-Smith did not let this deter her efforts to reward our hard working pupils, and there is a competition in every assembly, so watch out for this every Friday Morning. See below for some of our winners so far!

Northamptonshire Education Awards 2020

You may remember that last year Greenfields Primary School and Nursery won Primary School of the Year at the Northamptonshire Education Awards 2019. We were so proud of this fabulous recognition of our school. The Northamptonshire Education Awards 2020 will be hosted on 17th July at Wicksteed Park and parents are now able to nominate their child's school. Lots of our staff and parents are not only working from home, but are also teaching their own children. I am sure you can appreciate how difficult this can be! With that in mind we would love for you to nominate Greenfields Primary School and Nursery for our OUTSTANDING education.

We are on Facebook and Twitter!
