Introduction to the Sport Industry Community Sport

There is a “long standing belief that sport and leisure opportunities bring benefits for individuals and communities” (Collins 2010 p211) This understanding has dominated the provision of sport and physical activity over the last 20 years.

Morecambe Football Club have created a number of projects / initiatives aimed at bringing the community together in order to enhance their lives. You should watch the clip below to see the scope of their work. Whilst watching this you could evaluate these projects, thinking about their strengths / weaknesses.

What would you do??

You are to image you work for a specific sports organsiation, and you are to come up with an initiative of your own to that will encourage 1 target group within the community to participate in sport.

Your initiative should include the following:

Target 1 group (children, over 55, women etc)

Rational for you choice of group (i.e. Why have you chosen this group? How will this help the community?)

Details of the initiative, what is it? What would it include? When? Where etc.

You should put these details onto a Padlet for this topic, titled 'Community Sport.' You will see a link to this on the learnzone site and the password is community.
