Painting for Cindy Smith March 3-5, 2017

Original Photo

Cindy's Requests:

  • Only paint the car, boy, and father
  • Take out the chair and table that block the "three"
  • Painting size: 5 x 7
  • The car should be taupe

Digital Re-Imaging of Original Photo

After day 1, first 2 hours of work

Using a digital photo editing software program, the original photo was altered to help portray all of Cindy's requests. First, the original image was cropped (first image); Then, the background was erased, the table was cut out, and the chair overlapping the father and carpet was masked using a clone stamp tool (second image); Then, using the clone stamp tool again, the following areas were filled in to complete the re-imaging: the background in the upper left, the striped carpet in the foreground, and the rest of the front of the car (third image)

Phases of the Painting

After day 1, 4 additional hours of work

Cindy requests that the car not be so red. After submitting a variety of color samples, Cindy is able to tell which taupe is best. Taupe has a WIDE range of variations: some are more grey, some more brown, and some more sand colored.

During day 2, 4 hours of work

Car changed to match Cindy's color sample. The father's face is coming along.

Day 2, 4 more hours of work

Side by Side Comparison

Total hours worked: 14 hours
