COMMUNITY ACTION PROJECT ON WASTEWATER CARLA, SANDRA, PAULA, CLAUDIA, MARC AND XAVIER

WORLD OF WATER 2018/19

INTRODUTION:

This year we have worked on a Global Scholars project about water in the English class and also in Physics and Chemistry, in Spanish, in Catalan, in social science and in music. So, we have learned a lot about water. We have also been on two field trips: to the local River Interpretation Center and to the wastewater management plant in a nearby town.

Our group is particularly worried about wastewater. For our Community Action Project, we decided to talk to 6th grade kids about wastewater at the Cooperativa school (elementary).

GOAL:

Our first goal was water clean up but we changed the topic to wastewater because we found it more interesting.

OUR COMMUNITY ACTION PROJECT

At first we thought in doing bookmarks and give them to people in the street and explain them this problem. But then we decided to go to an a elementary school and do a game and a presentation to explain them and give bookmarks about the problem to them.

Getting Inspired by last year’s CAPs

Carla: She chose one project, read it but did not chose it.

April, 25th 2019

Carla: She created the cover page

Sandra & Xavi:They explored last year’s projects and brainstormed ideas

Paula: She entered the e-classroom to give feedback about the water issues infographic

Claudia’s: She did not come to school on that day.

May, 2nd 2019

Marc, Xavier & Claudia: They decided the project

Carla: She made a plan

Paula & Sandra: They took photos and collaborated on the plan

May, 8th 2019

Sandra:She took photos

Xavier: He helped everybody in the group

Carla: She gave ideas for the game

Paula: She took photos, registered in the Learningapps website and started to create the game

Marc: He helped Paula to do the game

Claudia: She gathered the information for the game

Carla: She wrote a post for the e-classroom (project goal)

Sandra: She also wrote a post for the e-classroom (project goal) and revised the dossier.

Marc: He was not here today

Claudia & Xavier: They wrote the script for the presentation and gmail

SCHOOL VISIT EXPERIENCE:

When we went to the school we had a class for us alone. Claudia and Sandra talked with his old teacher, Albert. They liked seeing him again. The kids be very intelligent . At first, we were a little nervous because it was the first time we talked in front of a class as teachers. But then we were not nervous and Xavier talked a lot.

CONCLUSION:

We learned to be patient with kids and teach them. We think they learned about this topic because in the game they chose the right answers.
