LGA NEWS EDITION 13, DATE: 23 april 2021

As we begin the summer term it has been lovely to see some warmer weather. Lessons this term have started with a higher level of challenge now that students have had a few weeks to adapt to being back in the classroom and I have seen some excellent learning taking place over the last few days.

Jim Parker, Principal.

The Governors and staff at Lord Grey Academy believe that the wearing of a distinctive school uniform makes an important contribution to the tone and reputation of the Academy, that it gives students a sense of belonging, and stops students coming in clothes which are unsuitable for school.

All students are expected to be wearing the full school uniform correctly. Please follow the link to access the Lord Grey Academy full school uniform expectations.

Students should only wear the Lord Grey PE kit on the days they have PE lessons. For the majority of students, this is two days a week. Please refer to timetables to check which days these should be.

On all other days, students should be wearing the correct full school uniform.

Hello Colossus House!

It's been a positive start to the term and we have heard from lots of Colossus students about how they have accepted our challenge to not only have a positive impact on those around them this half term, but to set personal goals for themselves too.

Our suggestions of some goal ideas were;

  • Perform one act of kindness each day
  • Put all your litter in the bin
  • Come prepared with all the equipment needed, every day
  • Bring a spare face mask to school
  • Attend an Extra-Curricular Activity
  • Read a Book every week
  • Go for a 30 minute walk each day

We look forward to hearing more about your goals and sharing how you are working towards them in the next newsletter!

House Points

Students from across Colossus have also been working hard to earn House Points, with our Top earners from the start of this term, shown below!

Well done to all Colossus students!

Colossus Alumni

We had an email from Robbie, a former Lord Grey student who was in Colossus House. Robbie recently completed his Phase one Army training and will now be moving on to Phase two training at Larkhill.

We're really pleased that Robbie is keeping in touch with us and letting us know how he is getting on.

Community Spirit

We've had lots of volunteers to collect litter in social time to help the school look it's best! Thank you to Joe and Tyler-John for collecting 4 bags worth!

Miss Hussey and Ms Whalley, Colossus House

Welcome back Lorenz House!

It is wonderful to see you all again and great to have got this new term off to a good start. Please remember to try your best in all your lessons.

Turn your Can’ts into Cans and you will soon turn your dreams into plans.

Please remember to wear the correct uniform and keep yourself smart.

When you are looking good, you feel good, and when you feel good your learning is good.

Ensure your uniform is correct and wear it with PRIDE!

Brave the shave

It is with tremendous pride that Lorenz shares with our school community the huge sacrifice that Melissa L7KHW, is making for Macmillan Cancer Support.

On July the 16th 2021, Melissa will have her hair shaved to raise money for Macmillan and will be donating her hair to The Little Princess Trust.

Melissa is hoping to raise £600 for the Macmillan Cancer Support and if you could spare some loose change, then please bring this to the Lorenz Hub and place this in the charity box.

We are super proud of you Melissa and are excited to see your post shave look!

Sunflower Challenge

All Lorenz students should have recieved some sunflower seeds in the post from Mrs Bowen and Mr Crook and are being asked to grow a sunflower this Summer term.

Remember you are awesome!

Mrs Bowen and Mr Crook, Lorenz House

Employment in Milton Keynes

MK remains a great place for jobs - with more positions than there are people of working age living here. Vacancies took a hit with the Covid lockdowns, but they are starting to increase again. Logistics and Supply Chain is the biggest sector, employing 14% of the MK workforce, but by far the biggest occupation group is digital - there are very few businesses that don't use IT now. In the last 12 months, there were about 1500 vacancies for software developers and engineers in MK, that's 50% more than the next biggest group - customer service.

Stay up to date

I share all events and opportunities on the LGA Careers Twitter account, so follow it to get information more quickly than waiting for these updates.

Remember, there is loads of information on the LGA careers website, and you can contact me on 01908 626180 or email joanna.brown@lordgrey.org.uk
