Jupiter By Corey Suhr

Jupiter Optimus Maximus (full name) is the supreme god of the Roman pantheon. He is the god of light and sky. He is also the protector of the state and it's laws. He is sometimes called the "Shining Father" Those are just some of the interesting things about Jupiter.

You may not know but Jupiter is the same person as Zeus. He had many children. His parents were Cronus (dad) and Rhea (mom). He also had brothers and sisters. They include Hestia, Demeter, Hades, Poseidon, and Hera. He married to his sister Hera but also has many other relationships. He had many children and some went on to become well known gods. He lived in Mount Olympus and was born knowing everything.

Jupiter lived in a temple with Juno and Minerva. It was the most important sanctuary in Rome. The temple was the center of political life. Official offerings were made, treaties were signed, and wars were declared. The triumphant generals of the Roman army even came to the temple to give thanks.

Jupiter goes by many names. Some include Caelestis (heavenly), Lucetius (of the light), Totans (thunderer), and Fulgurator (of the lightning). He was the protector of the ancient league of Latin cities and lead the Roman army to victory. His attribute is the lightning bolt and his eagle is both his symbol and his messenger.

Jupiter had many enemies. Some include Cronus (his dad), the Titans, Typhon, and Echidna. The reason his dad was his enemy is because he tried to eat him. Those are Jupiter's greatest enemies.

Jupiter was a great god. He is also one of the most well known gods. You may not have known that before but now you know Zeus and Jupiter are the same person. That was a brief summary of the Roman god Jupiter.
