Scientists innovate, and innovators lead.

Our research scientists consume vast resources, but they don't need to. Amidst a global push toward improved sustainability, our most natural leaders face the most natural opportunity - and that's a powerful combination.

What if research were more conscientious and less wasteful? What if resources were more responsibly directed toward discovery instead of excess energy, water, and plastic consumables? What if science set global standards in sustainability? Can you imagine the world that would inspire?

We're working to realize that world. Join us.

Did You Know?...

More than half of research funding is spent on overhead.

Laboratories consume as much as 2/3 of the energy used at large research institutions.

5.5 million tons of plastic waste is generated globally in bioscience labs every year.

My Green Lab works with utility companies, educational institutions, corporations and their partners in the laboratory research industry.

About My Green Lab

My Green Lab is a California-based non-profit dedicated to reducing the environmental impact of scientific research. As scientists, we’re improving the way in which research is conducted, making every research dollar go further. The data behind our efforts is complex and alarmingly real. We’re working with labs to implement simple, scalable solutions that foster conservation while increasing efficiency and productivity; we’re making sustainability second nature in the lab.

We’re working with ENERGY STAR to conduct the first comprehensive, data-intensive, and standardized research of laboratory equipment, studying the resources they consume and the way in which they’re used. These data are enabling utilities, manufacturers, and others to incentivize the use of more efficient equipment.

In order for scientists and their colleagues to better understand the impact of their work on the planet, we’re establishing laboratory product labeling standards. Much like nutrition labels changed the way we eat, product sustainability labeling will encourage more efficient acquisition, use, and recycling/disposal of products used in the laboratory.

We’ve developed the standard for sustainability best practices in research. Our Green Lab assessment helps reward labs that adopt sustainable practices, encourages them to reduce their environmental impact, and has built a growing, international community of scientists who are focused on making their work more environmentally responsible.

We know there’s a better way to fund science—a more responsible, sustainable way. As government funding for research continues to decline, increasing efficiency has never been more important. That’s why all of our funding goes toward ensuring that your research dollars don’t go to waste.

Your money—and your support—is far too important.

My Green Lab is building a culture of sustainability through science, by encouraging both behavioral change and the use of more sustainable materials and equipment.
